According to ANSA, the report of the Regional Anti-Mafia Commission in Liguria highlights the increasing role of the Albanian mafia in criminal activities in the region.
The document highlights that Albanian groups are displaying an increasingly stable presence and growing autonomy in their operations.
The commission's president, Andrea Orlando, stated that these groups are mainly involved in drug trafficking, using Ligurian ports as main logistical hubs. According to him, the criminal activities are related not only to the distribution of narcotics, but also to the penetration of the legal economy through illicit proceeds.
The report highlights that the Albanian mafia has moved from secondary roles to more specialized functions, managing the storage, transportation and distribution of drugs. At the same time, it has developed the ability to act independently, positioning itself as an important actor alongside traditional organizations such as the 'Ndrangheta.
According to data, a significant portion of drug seizures in Italy are linked to activities in Ligurian ports, which underlines the importance of this region in international trafficking networks that also include Albanian groups.
