The Supreme Court upholds the life sentence for the Italian "hitman" Salvatore Letizia.
In the consultation room, the decision of the former court of appeal for serious crimes in 2019 for the event known as the "massacre" on "Zogu i I" boulevard was upheld.
The event took place on May 27, 2015, the day when the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic, visited Tirana.
In an assassination attempt near the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Besnik Sulku, Mentor Lufi (Doçi) and Gert Goxhaj were killed.
The Italian Salvatore Letizzia and the two brothers Markeljan and Klevis Doçi were arrested as perpetrators. Even for the latter, the high court has upheld the sentence of 27 and 20 years in prison. Salvatore Letizzia, from Naples, known as a hired killer, is also known as part of the Italian mafia organization, "Camorra".
Letizia was hired by Besnik Sulku to execute Mentor Doçin, whom he accused of being responsible for the murder of his brother, Durim Sulku, in the Netherlands. Mentor Doçi was accompanied by his two grandsons, brothers Markeljan and Klevis Doçi.

It was these last two who executed Besnik Sulku, the organizer of the assassination, who was accompanied by the "Camorra" killer in this event. Mentor Lufi's friend, Gert Goxhaj, was also a victim of the assassination attempt.
In October 2018, the Court of Serious Crimes sentenced the perpetrators of the massacre on "Zogu i Parë" Boulevard.
Salvatore Leticia was sentenced to life imprisonment, Markelian Doçi was sentenced to 27 years in prison, while Klevis Doçi was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The series of revenge between Doce and Sulku
Based on the investigative actions, the Prosecution for Serious Crimes has presented the dynamics of the event to the Court, which has been reconstructed in cooperation with the Dutch authorities.
In December 2014, the citizen Mentor Lufi (Doçi) was wounded by a gunshot in the area of the former "Dinamo" Stadium, in Tirana, and the perpetrators left. The target of the assassination, Lufi, suspected that the attack on him was organized by the brothers Durim and Besnik Sulku. A conflict had started between Mentor Lufi and the Sulku brothers in Holland, where they often traveled and stayed.
After the assassination and the resulting injury, Lufi organizes his nephews, Markeljan and Klevi Doçi, to take revenge.
In April 2015, the two Doçi brothers assassinated Durim Sulku in the Dutch city of Ridderkerk. From the investigative actions of the Dutch authorities, it appears that Durim Sulku was in a Smart type vehicle, when he was shot to death several times with a pistol by Markeljan Doçi, who was accompanied by his brother, Klevi Doçi, also armed.
After the assassination attempt in Holland, the Doçi brothers return to Albania, avoiding the Dutch authorities.
After almost two months from the murder in Holland, specifically on the afternoon of May 27, 2015, Mentor Lufi, his two nephews Markeljan and Klevi Doçi, as well as their friend, Gerti Goxhaj, were in a bar near the Faculty of Sciences, on the boulevard " The First Bird" in Tirana. After leaving the bar, they boarded two vehicles, specifically: Mentor Lufi was a passenger in the vehicle driven by Gerti Goxhaj; while the brothers Markeljan and Klevi Doçi were in a vehicle behind the first, where Markeljan was driving. As soon as they got into the vehicles, two armed men approached the two sides of the first car, who shot the people on board, namely Mentor Lufin (Doçi) and Gert Goxhaj.
Goxhaj died on the spot from the gunshots and Lufi was seriously injured, who died a few moments later. At the moment of the gunshot, Markeljan Doçi quickly approaches the car towards the assassins, hitting one of them first. The latter, who later turned out to be Besnik Sulku, fired a pistol at the second vehicle, but without causing any damage to the Markeljan and Klevi Doçi brothers. Being hit by a pistol-type weapon from Besnik Sulku, Markeljani, also armed with a pistol, reacted by firing a weapon.
Markeljani and Sulku continued to shoot each other, until Besnik Sulku was left dead, a few meters away from the vehicles. Immediately after the event, the Police forces organized the operation to arrest the persons involved. Initially, brothers Markeljan and Klevi Doçi were arrested at the scene. Later, near a hotel in that area, Italian citizen Salvatore Letizia was also arrested, who turns out to be the person who, together with Besnik Sulku, was part of the murder of citizens Mentor Lufi and Gerti Goxhaj.
Charges against the three defendants:
Markeljan Doçi, born in 1981, in Bulqiza, is accused of committing the criminal offenses of: "Premeditated murder", committed in cooperation, to the detriment of the victim Durim Sulku (for the incident in Holland); "Murder committed by exceeding the limits of the necessary protection", to the detriment of the victim Besnik Sulku; "Unauthorized Possession of Combat Weapons", twice.
