Thirteen members of a criminal gang have been sentenced for their roles in a robbery in Tunbridge Wells that led to the brutal murder of an Albanian man. All the persons had organized the theft of cannabis plants in a grass house where they confronted the Albanian Xhovan Pepaj, whom they killed with a knife.
The event took place on December 4, 2021.
A locked floor-to-ceiling metal gate initially prevented officers from entering the upper floor of the building where Pepaj had sustained multiple stab wounds.
Access was provided by fire brigade teams and Pepaj, 25 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. A blood-stained knife was found nearby, but the suspects had fled.
Over the next 24 hours an investigation by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate led to five arrests. In the following weeks, eight more suspects were tracked down and arrested.
