Laert Haxhiu was extradited to Albania today, a year after his arrest in Ioannina with Georgian documents. Haxhiu made several attempts to escape the decision to extradite him.
The 32-year-old was sentenced to life imprisonment for a series of criminal offenses such as "Structured criminal group", "Commitment of criminal offenses by a criminal organization or a structured criminal group", "Murder in other qualifying circumstances", "Keeping permit and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition" and "Disturbance of public peace".
His extradition was carried out thanks to the cooperation between Interpol Tirana and Interpol Athens.
The 32-year-old was brought to Kakavije, under high security measures, by the Greek Police and taken into custody in Kakavije by the "RENEA" Special Forces.
Haxhiu was declared an international wanted by Interpol Tirana, after the Court of Lushnja, in 2017, sentenced him to 18 years of imprisonment, for the criminal offenses "Murder in other qualifying circumstances", remaining in the attempt and "Carrying without permission and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition". Citizen Laert Haxhiu, on 25.09.2016, wounded citizens Xh. Sh. and S. Xh.;
Likewise, the Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime, in 2020, sentenced him to life imprisonment for the criminal offenses "Structured criminal group", "Commitment of criminal offenses by a criminal organization or a structured criminal group", " Murder in other qualifying circumstances", "Unauthorized possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition" and "Disturbance of public peace".
