It is one of the bloodiest sagas of revenge, settlement of accounts, breaking of bargains and fierce war for rivalry and territorial control of drug trafficking, between Albania and Greece, and not only.
The fuse that ignited the conflict between the members of the same group, once many friends among them, (at least until 2022 when they posed and dined together), was a shipment of 700 kilograms of hashish lost on the Albania-Greece axis about seven years ago first, and specifically that it had to be trafficked from Saranda to Athens, by boat.
The organization allegedly appointed Edmond Papa (Hoxha) as a supervisor, with precedents in Britain, and Aleksandër Sadikaj, known as "Sancho", with previous precedents in Tirana, as a deliverer.
The organization believed Sadikaj's version that the cargo was lost. Although the economic damage was great, the debate was closed, but only temporarily. And the first crimes are believed to have happened in 2019 in Athens, Greece, where it was reported about the murder of two young Albanians, who were believed to be couriers of the cargo.
But this was not officially confirmed, and operational information remained that was linked to the voluminous file afterwards.
And the year 2022 would come when conflicts erupted badly. It seemed that the cause was a dispute over another shipment of 100 kg of hashish that had been lost to the Pope. A few days before he was killed, Aleksandër Sadikaj had dinner and slept at the Pope's "Blue Sky" hotel in Saranda, as they had been close friends for years. Sadikaj was the son of the aunt of Andrea (Adriatik) Kalemi, another name of the international drug trafficker, from Memaliaj, also a friend of the Pope.
And on June 11, a few days after returning from Saranda, Sadikaj is killed in a car bomb attack. Behind the vengeful saga is suspected to be the boss of the cartel, an Albanian, from a Greek prison, who asked to settle accounts for the loss of the cargo, as suspicions against Sadikaj for "work behind the back" grew.
And so far there are 5 people killed for revenge between separate groups in the last two years, 2 more innocent (a waiter and a local customer), as well as 2 not officially confirmed five years ago, who are considered the first victims of revenge chain.
June 11, 2022, Aleksandër Sadikaj is killed in a bomb attack
Aleksandër Sadikaj, also known by the nickname "Sanço", is killed in an explosion with a remote-controlled bomb. The 27-year-old, originally from Memaliaj and raised in Berat, was the cousin of the Kalemi tribe (nephew).
The incident happened while he was traveling to his hometown, near the TEG roundabout in Tirana. The perpetrators allegedly placed a significant amount of 150 grams of tritol controlled by remote control in the front of the vehicle, which was activated while moving and caused his death. The dynamics of the placement of the bomb was not revealed, while the motive is suspected to be the conflicts and the breakdown of drug deals in the Greece-Albania axis seven years ago.
It is suspected that the cause was the loss of a quantity of 700 kg of drugs (hashish) by Sadikaj, but that the organization suspected that he had sold it himself and appropriated the profits. Sadikaj had a previous criminal record in Tirana, a decade ago, for theft.
Sadikaj had just built a luxury agro-farm resort in Memaliaj with his Kalemi cousins, and this raised the organization's suspicions.
December 16, 2022, businessman Edmond Papa is executed in Tirana
Six months later, the Sarandiot businessman, Edmond Papa (previously also bore the surname Hoxha) was killed in Tirana. The businessman victim was known as Sadikaj's old social connection, before the conflicts in Greece started and then they turned into enmity with a chain of revenge between the groups. The origin of the saga is believed to come from a prison in Greece, where orders were given to eliminate Sadikaj's group, due to the missing narcotics.
The killing of the Pope was declared by the Police as revenge for the murder of Sadikaj. The investigations revealed at least 3 young people implicated in the execution of the Pope, while he was drinking coffee in the bar below his brother's house in Selita. The suspected perpetrators had social and family ties with Sadikaj.
Andrea (Adriatik) Kalemi's friend (Sadikaj's cousin), Albano Velo, was initially arrested for the Pope's execution, while Andrew Bode, arrested today (August 28, 2024), was announced as wanted. One of the young men was the son of a police officer in the capital. They followed the target from Saranda to Tirana, who brought the sick mother to the hospital for treatment.
The pope lived mostly between Saranda and Greece for years and owned a business in the coastal town. On January 8, 2024, the Prosecutor's Office of Tirana completed the investigations and submitted to the court the criminal file against Andrew Bodes and Albano Velos.
The prosecution says that the Pope was allegedly killed in revenge for the murder of Aleksandër Sadikaj, also known by the nickname 'Sanço'. Businessman Papa had a precedent in Greece, convicted of drug trafficking, as well as previously served in Great Britain.
December 18, 2022, 2 Albanians were killed in Athens
Meanwhile, two days after the murder of Edmond Papa in Tirana, on December 18, 2022, two other Albanians, Kreshnik Çerçizaj, 41 years old, and Armando Organja, 44 years old, were executed with firearms in a bar in Athens. In fact, Çerçizaj was reported to have died as a result of a heart attack during the assassination scene, and Organja was the target.
