The arrested Albanian, Argjent Dedja

A 24-year-old Albanian man has ended up in prison in the United Kingdom after being caught in a "barber shop" worth around 100,000 pounds.

Argjent Dedja was sentenced to 12 months in prison by a court in South Cumbria, for his involvement in the production of narcotics at a flat in the Barrow area.

According to British authorities, he was part of a large-scale organized activity. In the four-room apartment, 196 cannabis plants were discovered, about 100 of them mature, while the environment was fully adapted for this activity, with a ventilation system, special lighting and illegal electricity connections. The windows were covered so as not to be noticeable from the outside.

Police intervention led to the arrest of the young man, who was found leaving the apartment half-naked, heading towards a nearby elementary school.

During the investigation, Dedja stated that he had arrived in Barrow from London just the day before his arrest and denied knowledge of the illegal activity, claiming that he only had access to his room, kitchen and bathroom.

However, he admitted that he had entered Britain illegally, having paid 10,000 euros for the journey from Albania, through Italy and France, to the United Kingdom by dinghy.

The prosecution assessed that his role was limited, but part of an organized scheme to produce drugs for financial gain.

On the other hand, the defense emphasized that the 24-year-old had no criminal record and had only stayed in the apartment for one day.

Despite these arguments, the court imposed an immediate prison sentence, arguing that there is a risk of his involvement in similar activities in the future.

In addition to the sentence, he has been ordered to pay £400 court costs and a £187 surcharge, while police confirmed that the cannabis and equipment seized will be confiscated and destroyed.

The case is seen as another indicator of the involvement of Albanian citizens in the cultivation of cannabis in Britain, often within the framework of criminal networks and obligations towards them.
