When the British police arrested Bujar Cozminca after "flooding" Britain with cocaine worth about 8 million pounds, they realized that they were dealing with a character not unknown to justice.
The 33-year-old had already been deported from Britain on drug charges nine years ago, but it was no problem for him to return illegally to build his criminal empire.
He is one of many Albanians, part of the so-called "Boomerang" gang, who are challenging the immigration system in Britain.
The gang's name was chosen because of the frequency with which they dart in and out of British borders like a boomerang.
An intelligence source told The Sun: “It's a complete disgrace. They are jailed and deported only to return to Britain and pick up where they left off. They are in and out of bounds, so often they joke that they are boomerangs."
In the past four years, at least 12 "high-level criminals" have returned to the UK after being deported.
Cozminca was first deported in 2012 after serving 21 months in prison for drugs. He was deported to Albania, but returned to build his drug empire.
When he was arrested for the second time in 2021, police found he was involved in the purchase and supply of 100kg of drugs, worth £8m, and had laundered £2.5m of the proceeds of crime.
Using the code name "Insatiable Beta", he negotiated massive cocaine deals and laundered thousands of pounds a week.
When officers from the National Crime Agency raided his two flats in Islington and Wembley in North London, they found £300,000 in cash and registers which revealed drug deals worth £2m.
He was jailed for 12 years at Snaresbrook Crown Court in June after admitting the crime.
