The 55-year-old Albanian lost his life at work, protests in Italy: Let justice

A month after the death of the construction worker, the Albanian Edison Malaj, there were protests in Cozenca, Italy. The gathering organized by Albanians yesterday evening, but also by Italians in the area, was held in order to take measures for working conditions in construction.

The 55-year-old Albanian, father of two children, who lived and worked for 25 years in construction in the Italian state, lost his life a month ago after a concrete slab was detached from the crane, trapping him on the construction site where he worked in Castrovillari.

Investigations are being carried out for the event, while the prosecutors of the case have not yet come to the conclusion whether the company that performed the works respected all safety rules. The owner and two managers of the company continue to be under investigation for the incident

The prosecutors have also seized the cameras at the construction site where the tragedy occurred, and are continuing to take the testimonies of other witnessing employees on the day of the fatal accident.

"We hope that justice will do its duty and this is a first step," said Sara, the daughter of the worker who lost his life.

"Dad was a solar man, everyone loved him and he never said no," Sara recalled, thanking everyone who joined their protest.

And precisely to give an impetus to the investigations, so that someone is held responsible for the serious event, Albanians and Italians came together and protested, for almost 181 victims at work only during the first three months of 2024.
