North Korea launched a new ballistic missile towards the Sea of Japan. The announcement was made by the General Staff of South Korea's National Defense and the Japanese Coast Guard, Reuters reports.
According to Seoul, the missiles that were fired traveled about 300 kilometers. They were launched between 07:44 and 08:22 (local time). Tokyo, for its part, reported that the missiles traveled about 350 kilometers and even reached an altitude of 50 kilometers.
Japan said at least two of the missiles fell into the sea, outside the country's exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The Japanese prime minister condemned the incident, calling it "a threat to peace and security in our region and internationally", calling it "totally unacceptable".
Meanwhile, US diplomacy condemned the launch, which came amid a visit by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to South Korea. North Korea's new show of force follows the conclusion of 10 days of annual joint US-South Korean military exercises on Thursday.
