An alarming situation occurred yesterday evening in the village of Hardhishte, Shijak, where waste collected in an open area was deliberately burned during the night.
According to a media complaint, residents of the area say that this dangerous practice has become routine, creating severe air pollution and seriously endangering their lives and health.
Residents report that the fire was reactivated yesterday evening in the place where garbage is usually thrown. Meanwhile, a police car has arrived at the scene after an urgent notification from residents, who are facing thick smoke and a real risk of suffocation.
"It's a disaster. They drowned us, they can't put out the fire with that police vehicle. The whole village is being put at risk," says one of the residents who sent the video of the fire.
Residents are calling on responsible institutions to take urgent measures to stop the burning of waste and to guarantee the safety of the community. They are demanding the immediate intervention of firefighters and environmental inspectorates to avoid escalating the situation.
It is also known that the waste collected in this village is not sent to the Sharra landfill but is burned in open areas where there are also residents. This is the second time that this serious situation has occurred in this municipality.
The illegal burning of waste came after the show Piranjat denounced the lack of infrastructure related to waste disposal in this municipality, with facts and videos.
