The Guardia di Finanza of Vicenza has cracked down on a suspected drug trafficking network, seizing a significant quantity of narcotics and arresting two people.
The operation took place near the town of Recoaro Terme, where Italian authorities discovered and seized 11.4 kilograms of marijuana, as well as a quantity of cocaine and cash suspected of deriving from illegal activity.
A 25-year-old Albanian and a 65-year-old Italian, both residents of the province of Vicenza, were arrested. According to authorities, their arrest was made during a suspected drug exchange.
It all started during a routine patrol in the evening hours, when Guardia di Finanza officers noticed the 65-year-old Italian approaching and then entering the vehicle driven by the Albanian, which was parked near Recoaro Terme. According to investigators, the Italian was carrying a significant amount of money.
Suspicious of the movements and circumstances of the encounter, the officers decided to search the persons and the vehicle. During the search, they discovered 10 packages of marijuana weighing a total of 11.4 kilograms, hidden in a special compartment with a false bottom inside the vehicle.
Further checks led to the discovery of 57.1 grams of cocaine and 5,500 euros in cash in the possession of the Italian citizen. The entire quantity of drugs and money were seized by the authorities.
According to Italian media, the two people were arrested on charges of drug trafficking and then transferred to the Vicenza prison, awaiting court proceedings.
