Failure to comply with traffic rules, alcohol, speeding beyond the permitted limits, wrong overtaking, and using a mobile phone while traveling are the main causes of accidents for 2024.
Road safety expert Islam Qibini sees speeding as a concern, especially among young people.
"We have an underestimation, they clearly ignore road traffic rules," said Qibini.
According to him, the solution is not fines but license suspension and reduction of points.
"In this category of leaders who are young and whose parents have income, they have no problem, for example, paying double the fine," said Qibini.
According to Qibin, the Road Code needs a VKM where all violations of road traffic rules by drivers are determined.
"The Highway Code contains several general provisions regarding the behavior of road users. The time has come to make a regulation for road users to correctly define their duties and rights while moving by vehicle," said Qibini.
During 2024, 1,666 accidents occurred, with 175 killed and 216 seriously injured.
