New details have been made public regarding the incident that occurred the day before in Mamurras, where Leonard Dema was injured during a police operation aimed at his arrest.
According to sources, the State Police's FAST unit had been tracking the 23-year-old for several days and had set up an operational group to capture him.
The police officers used unofficial vehicles, while they were equipped with police uniforms. When they approached the vehicle carrying Leonard Dema and Amadeo Fufi, the police carried out maneuvers to block the road, cutting off the path of the young men's vehicle.
According to the police, an object suspected to be a firearm was removed from the passenger side, where Amadeo Fufi was. At that moment, the officers opened fire, wounding the driver of the vehicle.
Afterwards, the FAST group got out of the vehicles and arrested Fufi, while Leonard Dema was transported to the hospital for medical assistance.
The seized weapon has been sent for examination to the laboratory, where it will be determined whether it was functional and fingerprint checks will be carried out.
Meanwhile, the Police Oversight Agency (AMP) is expected to question the people involved and review security cameras from a business near the scene, to verify whether standard police procedures were followed during the operation.
The hospital reports that Leonard Dema's health condition is out of danger.
