After the arrest of the chief of the police station and 4 officers, the operation expands again to the Saranda police
The Police Supervision Agency has undertaken another operation at the Saranda Police Station, deepening investigations into the illegal construction scandal and suspicions of the involvement of police officers in favoring illegalities on the southern coast.
Preliminary sources indicate that so far, a detention order has been executed against an officer of the serious crimes section at the Saranda Police Station, suspected of the criminal offense of "abuse of office." He is Deputy Commissioner Edmond Ruçi .
It is not yet known what violations are involved, but the operation is still ongoing and new details are expected to be made public by AMP itself.
This is the second AMP operation in a few days in Saranda, after the sensational action of May 15, where the head of the Saranda Police Station, Gëzim Bashllari, as well as three other officers were detained: Deputy Commissioner Andi Duro, Deputy Commissioner Ajdin Ismailaj and Inspector Robert Çullaj.
According to AMP, they are suspected of "abuse of office", "committing arbitrary actions" and "failing to take measures to stop illegality", related to illegal construction in Saranda and Ksamil.
Investigations allegedly uncovered a scheme where police officers not only tolerated illegal construction on the coastline, but in some cases also carried out procedural actions in violation of the law to favor the entities involved.
According to preliminary data, AMP is investigating suspicions that in the most coveted tourist areas of the south, connections have been established between police officers and groups or entities that carried out unauthorized construction, avoiding controls and legal interventions.
The new operation shows that the investigations have not ended only with the arrest of local police leaders, but are also expanding to other structures of the Saranda Police Station.
Sources close to the investigation do not rule out the possibility of other arrests in the future, while the Saranda Prosecution Office and the AMP are continuing verifications to fully document criminal responsibilities and identify other persons implicated in the suspected scheme of abuses with unauthorized construction on the coast.
