A 55-year-old man from Kosovo has been criminally prosecuted after attempting to smuggle a large amount of undeclared money into Albania.
It is learned that GM, a resident of Kosovo, was stopped by the Police upon entering Albanian territory through the customs checkpoint. During the search, they found 16,000 Euros in his possession, which were later seized along with other valuables.
The 55-year-old was trying to transfer the money illegally, without declaring it according to the rules.
"Border Police Services have increased vigilance to crack down on illegal activities at the border.
In this context, in cooperation with the customs authorities, at the entrance to the Republic of Albania, the "Audi" vehicle with the Kosovar citizen as the driver was moved to the second line for detailed inspection.
During the search, 16,000 euros were found, which this citizen was attempting to bring into Albania, without declaring it in accordance with the laws in force.
Following the procedural actions in the case, the materials were referred to the Prosecutor's Office, where proceedings were initiated against a 55-year-old Kosovar citizen, resident in Kosovo, for the criminal offense of "Failure to declare money and valuables at the border".
"The procedural materials were passed to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Kukës, for further action," the police announced.
