Turkey has cleared the way for the extradition of the 'cocaine baron' Dritan Rexhepi to Albania.
Turkey has approved the extradition of Dritan Rexhep to Albania.
Media sources say that approval is expected from the Turkish Minister of Justice this week.
This fact was confirmed in the Special Court by Rexhepi's lawyer, who in the session for the presentation of evidence where Rexhepi is accused of the kidnapping and disappearance of Jan Prenga.
We remind you that Dritan Rexhepit was on the Interpol list, as he is also wanted by Italy, which sentenced him to 20 years in prison, and Ecuador.
Dritan Rexhepi was captured as a result of cooperation between law enforcement agencies of several partner countries and Albania. This citizen was declared an international wanted by Interpol Tirana, on 26.03.2006, after the Court of First Instance for Serious Crimes, Tirana, with the decision dated 06.06.2013, sentenced him to 25 years of imprisonment, for the criminal offense " Premeditated murder", committed in cooperation, "Serious wounding with intent", committed in cooperation and "Illegal possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition".
Until 2014, Dritani was on the top 10 most wanted list by Interpol Tirana.
A person known not only by Albanian justice, but also by Italian, Belgian, Dutch and Spanish, where Dritan Rexhepi has set several records in terms of criminal events.
The "King of Cocaine", as Albanian drug boss Dritan Rexhepi is known, recently operated from Ecuador.
A recent report published by the prestigious media 'The Economist' stated that Rexhepi "is the successful model of the Balkan criminal emissary of cocaine in Latin America", as he is the leader of a sophisticated structure for drug trafficking from South America in Europe, he has even managed to corrupt the authorities since 2014 when he was arrested.
In Albania, he was sentenced in absentia to 25 years in prison, for the murder of two policemen in Fushë-Krujë, Arben Keqi and Durim Kasmi, which happened in 1998. At that time, he was considered by the Albanian Police as the first murderer with payment.
How did the "criminal" career of Dritan Rexhepi begin?
In 1999, when he was still a teenager (19 years old), Kalashnikov fired at the police in a bar. It is suspected that he was paid for the assassination and his bullets also killed someone else. The police arrested Rexhepi only in January 2006 in Tirana, in one of the most luxurious hotels of the capital, with an illegal pistol-type weapon. Rexhepi was transferred to the premises of the Durrës Police Directorate, which had jurisdiction over the Kruja area. That same evening, Rexhepi escaped from the interrogation room after picking a faulty lock with his finger and telling a guard that the police were done with him. The court later convicted him in absentia of murder. It was the first of three prison breaks after European police chased him across the continent on drug-trafficking and other charges.
Dritan Rexhepi "king" of prison escapes
The Spanish media opened it with a headline in July 2011, calling Dritan Rexhepi the "king" of escapes.
Journalists in Spain wrote several days in a row about the wanted Albanian, after he carried out the robbery of one of the biggest banks in Barcelona, in the evening when all the fans were in the square celebrating the victory of the "Champions League" by the Barcelona team.
The local police were shocked by the way Albanians carried out bank robberies, labeling them as "robbers who leave no trace".
After the arrest, Rexhepi was extradited to Belgium, where he was wanted for drug trafficking. But he did not stay in the cell for more than two months, since in October 2011, he escaped from the prison, together with another convict. But this was not his first escape, so he was considered a master of escapes.
In 2008, he made another spectacular escape from Pavia prison in Italy. Rexhepi had taken an elderly woman's car and disappeared, causing the entire prison staff to be dismissed. But he had done the same in Albania.
After being arrested in the lobby of a hotel in Tirana with two pistols in his belt, in 2006, Rexhepi escaped from the Durrës police station, after a help from the Police, who left the door open for him.
In June 2014, with a different identity and changed appearance, Dritan Rexhepi remained unidentified for more than a month while he was in the cell. The Superoperation of the Police in Quito, Ecuador, where 278 kilograms of cocaine were seized, also handcuffed Vlonjat.
It was the fingerprints that revealed that the arrested person was precisely Dritan Rexhepi, from Vlora, at that time 34 years old.
Involvement in the sensational kidnapping and murder of Jan Prenga in Kamëz
His name appeared on the scene in 2020, when Jan Prenga was taken hostage on January 17 of that year in the Kamza area. He was taken to a resort in Shijak, where he was tortured to death and to this day there is no trace of him.
According to SPAK, the hostage-taking of Jan Prenga was ordered by Dritan Rexhepi and Gentjan Doçaj because his brother Astrit Prenga had stolen a quantity of cocaine in Portsmouth Port, England, that had been trafficked from Ecuador to England.
The Special Prosecutor's Office announced that Dritan Rexhepi, at the end of December 2019, ordered the kidnapping of the victim Jan Prenga.
Dritan Rexhepi was the first hired killer in Albania, in 1998. From that moment, Rexhepi did not stop and continued on his way, becoming the headline of the black chronicle, not only in our country but also in foreign media.
We remind you that Rexhepi has been charged by the Special Court together with 6 other people as the organizer and orderer of the kidnapping and murder of Jan Prenga in Kamëz in 2021. According to SPAK, his brother Astrit Prenga had robbed a quantity of cocaine in a port in England.
For the return of the narcotics, in collaboration with Aldo Majnishta, Martin Bleta, Korado Gështenja and Artan Doçajn, they threatened Astri Prengë's brother, Jan Prengë, who, according to SPAK's investigations, lost his life from the violence.
Created his "brand" in the cocaine trafficking business
Rexhepi had under his direct orders a number of Albanians in Ecuador, the Netherlands, Italy and Albania and business partners in most of Western Europe who controlled cocaine distribution channels across the continent. As Rexhep's group expanded, he sought to differentiate himself from the groups operating in the international traffic market.
"Let's go to the market with our name", the coordinator of the group in Italy wrote to Rexhepi in March 2016. "Our brand is still not known". Rexhepi replied, proposing the name Bello. The group's cocaine bricks were quickly branded with this brand. Rexhepi led the Bello company with charisma and violence. He ordered attacks and at least two murders, one in Ecuador and one in Albania, according to Italian police. Dritan Rexhepi is accused of being the head of a powerful international drug trafficking group from Latin America to Europe. / Pamphlet
