The 64-year-old Albanian Fasili Qibini, convicted of international drug trafficking, was arrested in Italy after 12 years on the run.
He managed to avoid the authorities for 12 years by being careful in his movements, but yesterday he was arrested by the Italian authorities.
He was arrested as he was walking down a street in Secondigliano, Naples, about to light a cigarette he had just bought in a shop.
Investigators have spotted him after noticing unusual purchases in Qibin's family's expenses. Especially for the constant purchase of cigarettes, when no one in the house was a smoker, except for the 64-year-old.
They kept his apartment under surveillance, until on Friday the Albanian was "betrayed" by the desire to buy cigarettes.
Fasili Qibini, who supplied drugs to the Di Lauro clan and the Nardiello criminal group, left the apartment to go to the store, since there was no one in the apartment to buy for him. The moment he left the store, he was arrested by the Italian authorities.
Quibini must serve 22 years in prison for international drug trafficking, he was on the run since April 2011, when despite being under house arrest he disappeared without a trace.
