A police report of a burglary led to the discovery of a large cannabis operation at an industrial site in Bradford, which could have made around £500,000 in profit.
When officers arrived at the scene in Dick Lane in August 2022, they found one of the gates open and two Albanians had gone into the house.
Prosecutor Andrew Semple said the pair did not respond to police requests to come down first and police intervened by helicopter.
The two Albanians went down, meanwhile, during the search, the police found three rooms, which had been transformed into a cannabis cultivation facility with a large number of lights, transformers and hundreds of potted plants.
Bradford Crown Court was told that two of the rooms contained more than 650 mature cannabis plants, while a "nursery" room contained a further 376 plants.
Investigator Andrew Smith said the plants had a potential yield of 57kg of cannabis, which could be worth up to £494,000 if sold on the street. Sergio Gjoshi, 25, and Voltes Rexho, 36, both admitted their involvement in the production of cannabis on the second day of their trial last October.
Today Judge Recorder Smith jailed Gjosh for 32 months for his role in what the judge described as a sophisticated commercial operation that would have produced a large amount of drugs that could have ended up on the street.
"The potential gain for those involved in this work further down the chain was just as great ," said Recorder Smith.
Rexho, who was said to have played a lesser role than his co-accused, was jailed for 27 months and Recorder Smith said none of the defendants had been at the top of the chain.
The two Albanians had been living in "deplorable" conditions, while Gjoshi told an officer he had hoped to be paid around £20,000, which he had paid to enter Britain illegally.
