The Albanian Fatmir Dervishi is accused of a double murder, which happened on the night between December 31, 1996 and the early hours of January 1, 1997.

One person's throat was cut, while another was slaughtered with a knife, receiving 27 wounds and a bullet in the forehead. Then the bodies of the two victims Ilir Haxia and Kastriot Tufa were burned.

For this double crime, the Albanian Fatmir Dervishi was first sentenced to life imprisonment and then to 30 years in prison.
Dervish never attended the trial, having fled and was arrested later in 2019.

When he asked to be judged again, he said "it wasn't me". But this was not enough to convince the judges of the Court of Appeal of Turin, who again sentenced him to 30 years in prison.

"We will appeal the decision to the Supreme Court" , announced the lawyer of the accused.

Thus, almost 28 years later, the crime that happened on New Year's Eve in the Alessandria area returns.

Albanians Ilir Haxia and Kastriot Tufa traveled from Padua to celebrate the new year together with their compatriots. They were brutally killed by three other men. On June 12, 1998, Dervishi was sentenced to life imprisonment as a fugitive. The accomplice, Dridanet Iberisha, was sentenced to 30 years in prison and Sami Casmi was sentenced to 6 years in prison.

"He was the one who accused Dervish", recalls the lawyer.

Two weeks ago the two found themselves facing each other in the Turin court.
In fact, the 44-year-old Albanian was arrested and asked for a new trial. The Court of Appeal dismissed his first appeal, but the Supreme Court overturned that decision and ordered a new case (the third on Appeal).
