The Prosecutor's Office of Fier has started criminal proceedings against the perpetrator of the murder of the "Eagles" police officer, 23-year-old Azgan Mërnica.
According to the prosecution, he is charged with two charges, those of "Murder of state police officers" and "Unlicensed possession of weapons".
The police are continuing the search for finding and arresting the author.
"On 13.05.2024, the Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of the Fier General Jurisdiction, on the basis of the material referred by the Fier Local Police Department, registered criminal proceedings no. 689, of 2024, for the criminal offenses "Murder of State Police employees" and "Unauthorized possession and production of weapons, explosive weapons and ammunition" provided by article 79/b and 278 par. I of the Penal Code.
This criminal case has been registered for the event that happened on 13.05.2024, around 13:30, in the village of Baltëz, Administrative Unit of Dërmenas, Municipality of Fier, where the employee of the NC state police was shot dead.
On the part of the judicial police, under the direction of the ready prosecutor, present at the scene of the incident, after procedural actions such as inspection of the scene of the incident, seizure of material evidence, seizure and examination of film footage, questioning of many persons and other investigative actions related to the nature of the event, it was possible to identify the suspected author, citizen AM, born on 15.06.2001, born in Fier and resident in Sulaj, Administrative Unit Dërmenas, Fier Municipality.
With the aim of bringing the suspected author to criminal responsibility, the State Police structures are continuously and intensively searching for the suspected author.
Also, on the part of the judicial police, under the direction of the prosecutor of the case, procedural actions are being carried out with the aim of fully evidencing the dynamics of the event", announced the prosecution.
We recall that 28-year-old Novruz Cenalia was killed with a bullet to the head on May 13, 2024 in the village of Baltëz in Fier. He was on his way to work, but got involved in an argument with Azgan Mërnica, 23 years old, about the turn to drive. At this moment, the 23-year-old took out the pistol he was carrying and with a single bullet in the head he left the State Police employee dead on the spot. Afterwards, he left the scene, where his arrest has not yet been possible.
