The investigations into the murder of Egli Pashollari have taken a new turn, after the wife of the suspected perpetrator, Gazment Buçpapaj, changed her testimony before investigators.
According to sources from the investigation group, she stated that the conflict between the parties began due to a momentary situation on the road.
In her latest statement, the alleged perpetrator's wife claimed that there was a verbal altercation between them and the victim, and stated that "He didn't harass me, the fight started after he blocked our path." She added that the fight started for this reason and then the situation escalated to the use of a knife.
"The policeman insulted us after the man honked his horn to clear the way," she testified.
This version differs from previous testimony given in the initial phase of the investigation, however, authorities have not yet made public details on the specific discrepancies between the statements.
The prosecution is verifying the new statements, comparing them with evidence collected at the scene, other testimonies and film materials, if any. Sources close to the investigation indicate that the change in testimony is expected to be assessed in the context of the dynamics of the event and criminal liability.
Up to this stage, authorities have not confirmed whether this is a momentary conflict or a previous clash between the parties.
Earlier, the suspected perpetrator's wife stated that she works as a saleswoman at a market near the scene of the incident, and that she had told him about constant concerns and harassment from the victim.
