The last 24 hours have been challenging for the Gjirokastra Police and Prosecution Office to find an answer as to who is behind the murder of Italian businessman Edorado Sarchi, shortly after midnight on Friday in the Salaria area of Tepelena.
Armir Hitoveizi, a resident of the Dilan area near Selenica in Tepelena, is 1 of 4 witnesses who were questioned by the Gjirokastra investigative group about the murder of Italian businessman Edoardo Sarchi, 44, a day earlier.
While the role of the other 3, Eqerem Braçi and his two sons Gazmend and Daniel, is known according to their claims and version that they were with the Italian businessman when they were attacked with weapons, what was not known was the fact why the shepherd was there in the early hours of Saturday morning, shortly after midnight, at 00:30.
It is learned that the shepherd Hitoveizi has a hut about 200 meters away from the place that was registered as a crime scene.
According to information, the shepherd was traveling by car and got stuck on the road because he ran out of fuel. Since he was nearby, he stopped at the scene, about 200 meters from his cattle shed.
Like the Braçi family, he told investigators that he had heard 3 gunshots, fired by a mysterious person.
The only evidence investigators have about the murder of the Italian businessman is eyewitness testimony, which claims that the murder was committed by a person on foot. However, this testimony is not corroborated by other evidence, as there are no security cameras in the area, and no shell casings were found at the scene.
Despite the limited material evidence, the investigation team is expanding the investigation into the businessman's possible conflicts. It is also following his 24-hour itinerary of movements and contacts, to find out who knew about his whereabouts. The suspicions are that the killers or accomplices in the crime are part of the businessman's circle.
We recall that the serious incident occurred in the village of Salari, while at around 00:30, in a place called "Dilan", the lifeless body of Italian businessman Edoardo Sarchi was found.
According to signs at the scene, it is believed that the victim's body was dragged and thrown to the other side of the road.
"It is not known whether he tried to get out on his own or if it was the suspect who did this," the journalist previously reported on the incident.
The area where the incident occurred is a very busy one. Italian businessman Edoardo Sarchi had lived in Tirana for 20 years and often went to Salari in Tepelena due to his passion for hunting.
