The expert report that found biological material (DNA) of Kejsi Spahillari on the sheet that was used to hang the late Antonio Karafili.
The Korça Prosecution Office has completed the investigation into the event 7 years ago on 14.06.2018, where 18-year-old Antonio Karafili was initially considered to have committed suicide and then in-depth investigations revealed that he was killed by his girlfriend, who was a year younger, along with 65-year-old Rexhep Vathi. It seems that Antonio Karafili had realized that his girlfriend was having a second affair with the 65-year-old and this seems to have been the motive for both of these citizens to kill the 18-year-old and staged this as a suicide.
Two days ago, the Korça prosecution completed the investigation and filed the charge of "Intentional Murder" committed in collaboration with Kejsi Spahillari, who is now in Canada, where she has started a family, and with citizen Rexhep Vathi, who last year ended his life in the Kruja area by drinking phosphoxin. The prosecution has collected sufficient evidence and statements regarding this event in 7 years, while it seems that the suicide attempt came to an end with the expert report that found biological material (DNA) of Kejsi Spahillari on the sheet that was used to hang the deceased Antonio Karafili.
One of the statements that has increased suspicions that the incident was not a suicide but a murder, was the way Kejsi Spaillari proceeded in the first moments of the incident. She was the last one to have had contact with the deceased and according to the investigation file, Spaillari went to Korça and took Antonio's mother and brother and directed them to a road that leads to the Voskopoja forest, to the place where the 18-year-old's dead body was found. There, in a serious condition, almost in tears, she told Antonio's family members "Here you have it!" (for the deceased's body), this fact is supported in the prosecution file, from the statements of those present. It was also the young woman herself who indicated that they had argued that day because the victim suspected that the young woman might have had a double affair.
At the same time, the young woman has given indications in various statements or conversations that the event was not a suicide, but a murder. In a conversation with the victim's mother, which is revealed in the prosecution file, Kesji Spahillari admits that Antonio Karafili was killed, implicating her uncle.
"Citizen Stefani Karafili (Victim's Mother) tells Casey that there was no way Antonio would have committed suicide and asks Casey how she judges him. Casey replies that Antonio himself did not do it, but she also suspects Miloja," the prosecution's file states.
It was also the young woman who recorded an audio conversation with 65-year-old Rexhep Vathi, where the latter tells the young woman "You Kejsi, you should restrain yourself, whoever calls you, civilian, policeman, I don't know... Take care of yourself", Rexhepi also asks Kejsi where Antonio found the sheet, but her answer is not heard from the recordings. Meanwhile, it was the 65-year-old who advised Kejsi Spaillari to go to Germany or France for two or three years.
But Rexhep Vathi's positions have been complicated, as he stated that the day before the event he left Voskopoja towards Kruja, but the facts and statements of other attendees have shed light, specifying that Rexhep Vathi was in Voskopoja on the day of the event.
Another element that emerges from the investigative file is a very suspicious message that seems to have been overlooked by investigators and from which valuable information for the investigation could have been obtained. It is a denunciation on the “Digital Commissariat” platform, sent at 17:59, where an anonymous citizen, according to the prosecution file, writes that “Antonio Karafili is killed with a gun”, with the subject of the message “A Plere”.
Part of the file: A copy of the report is available from the Digital Commissariat Platform, from which it appears that the description reads "A bird", the additional information reads "Andon Karatili is killed with a gun", the city is "KORCE", the reporting device is "iPhone", the address is "Ko".
The Tirana Local Police Directorate, with letter no. 2953/1 prot., dated 22.03.2019, informs that it appears that the report was made from an iOS-Iphone platform device and no other data is available.
But the investigations never managed to find out who the person who sent this message was, since the electronic data was automatically deleted within the deadline, without the possibility of recovery. Due to the slow investigative actions that were oriented towards suicide.
As is known from the investigations, it turns out that only at 22:37 the SPZ found citizen Antonio Karafili to have committed suicide, only after receiving the notification from the victim's relatives, so the message, which has remained a mystery, corresponds to the real time of the event.
The scientific evidence that has uncovered Kejsi Spaillari is precisely the genetic data that was found on a part of the sheet that was used to hang the victim. Although she before the OPGJ "asked at some point that she touched the part of the sheet that was found a few meters away from the tree, she stated that she did not know that she had ever touched it." But according to the prosecution "From the biological sample examined with DNA analysis, prepared from a saliva sample taken from citizen Kejsi Spaillari (material evidence no. 2), a comparison model, a genetic profile of the female sex was obtained, which is included in the genetic profile with valid mixed signs for comparison, obtained from the tear area in the third part of the sheet, examined with biological act no. 14600, date 22.12.2022."
The serious incident, which was recorded on 14.06.2018, was only brought to light after 7 years by the Korça Prosecutor's Office, while it was dismissed several times by different prosecutors, with the justification that we were dealing with a suicide, which in most cases of expertise was also supported by forensic medicine, which apparently did not conduct accurate expertise.
