
A 37-year-old man has been arrested at the Port of Durres after attempting to traffic paintings worth 25 thousand euros.
From the checks in this vehicle, 10 undeclared paintings were found, for which 37-year-old Kasem Qato did not have any documents proving their origin or ownership.
Also, citizens with the initials QH, 25 years old, resident of Fier, and GN, 53 years old, resident of Durrës, have been declared wanted, as investigations suspect them of being collaborators of Kasem Qato for trafficking paintings.
"The Border Police crack down on a case of attempted trafficking in works of art. 10 paintings worth around 25,000 euros are seized. The driver of the van where the paintings were found is arrested in flagrante delicto. 2 citizens, suspected of being collaborators in this case, are identified and declared wanted.
Following the work based on risk analysis, carried out by the Border Police of the Port Durrës BCP, at the entry/exit of the country, with the aim of preventing and combating crimes at the border, at the exit of Albania, the van driven by citizen Kasem Qato was moved to the second line for detailed inspection.
From the checks in this vehicle, 10 undeclared works of art (paintings) were found, for which this citizen did not have any documents proving their origin or ownership. Following the procedural actions in the case, citizen KQ, 37 years old, resident of Elbasan, was arrested in flagrante delicto.
Also, citizens QH, 25 years old, resident of Fier, and GN, 53 years old, resident of Durrës, were declared wanted, as the investigations suspect them to be collaborators of citizen KQ, for trafficking in paintings. Work continues to capture them and fully document this case. The procedural materials were passed to the Durrës Prosecutor's Office, for further actions, for the criminal offense "Trafficking in works of art and culture", committed in collaboration", the police announced.
