Greek police have managed to solve an assassination attempt that occurred on September 23 of a year ago in Athens, where two Albanians were wounded by gunfire. Police investigations revealed that the assassination was ordered from prison by 48-year-old Albanian Klod Cara alias Klodian Lekocaj, who has been imprisoned for years as the author and orderer of several murders and serious incidents in Greece, often as their "subcontractor" for third parties.
The incident occurred at around 6:00 p.m. on September 23 on “Kriti 21” street in Athens. Two Albanians, Kristjanis Stefa, 35 years old from Elbasan and Florian Bajraktari, 37 years old from Tirana, both with criminal records, were shot from a “Nissan” Qashqai SUV, leaving them injured. Police found 7 shell casings at the scene while the perpetrators fled in an unknown direction.
After 5 months of investigation, the Greek police managed to uncover the people involved in the attack. From the examination of security cameras and evidence, the police discovered that the person who opened fire was Ledjon Çela, 34 years old, from Korça. On the day of the incident, Çela, in collaboration with still unidentified persons, stole a “Nissan” Qashqai vehicle on “Ipiro 190” street in Koridhalo, Athens, which he parked on “Kritis” street in Athens.
An hour before the incident, a “Citroen” C1 vehicle arrived near the “Nissan” vehicle, from which citizen Mateo Nunaj, 23 years old, from Lushnja, got out, got into the driver’s seat of the “Nissan” vehicle and drove away. 45 minutes later, Ledjon Çela, Mateo Nunaj and 24-year-old Aleksandër Baki moved as pedestrians in the area, near the place where the “Nissan” vehicle was parked. After that, they got back into the vehicle, Nunaj as the driver, Baki in the front seat and Cela as the passenger from behind. Moving in the vehicle, they approached the place where Stefa and Bajraktari were and from the window of the vehicle, Çela opened fire, injuring the two people. After the shooting, the “Nissan” vehicle drove away towards “Delijorgji” street and stopped further away. The passengers then got out and left on foot.
On March 31, the police escorted Aleksander Baki, who confessed to the incident and his involvement. According to him, the incident occurred to "settle scores" between Klod Cares alias Klodian Lekocaj and Kristjanis Stefa. For this, Lekocaj ordered Ledjon Çela to carry out the assassination. The latter two knew each other in prison.
The police have managed to arrest Aleksandër Baki, Klodian Lekocaj and Ledjon Çele. The latter two are currently in prison in Malandrino and Hio respectively. According to Baki's testimony, Mateo Nunaj has fled to Albania.
The two victims of the assassination attempt are people with criminal records. Kristjanis Stefa was arrested in April 2024 after an operation in Greece, as part of a group that was receiving stolen goods. While Florian Bajraktari was arrested in Greece in 2006 for the contract killing of Albanian Niko Demo, for which he was released on bail in 2018, while in 2020 he was arrested again for gambling in Greece, writes TCH.
As for the perpetrators, Ledjon Çela, 34, from Korca, has a criminal record in Albania for “production and sale of narcotics”. While in Greece, he has criminal records for “extortion”, “illegal violence”, “threat”, “serious injury”, “insult”, “theft”, “destruction of property”, “false testimony”, “forgery”, “violation of residence permit”, “violation of the law on narcotics”, “domestic violence”, “unlicensed possession of weapons”, etc. He is currently imprisoned for “attempted theft” and “destruction of property”.
Mateo Nunaj, 23 years old, from Lushnja, has criminal records for "theft", "criminal organization", "violation of the law on narcotics" and "violation of road traffic regulations". He was currently under a "compulsory appearance" security measure, which he violated.
Aleksandër Baki, 24 years old, has a history of "robbery" and "violation of the law on narcotics".
Who is Klod Cara alias Klodian Lekocaj, the infamous Albanian of the "Prison Mafia" Klod Cara alias Klodian Lekocaj, 48 years old, a controversial character has returned to the spotlight in recent years due to being labeled by the Greek media as the Head of the so-called "Prison Mafia". How much he really is like that is unknown, since in his public appearances in the media he considers himself "poor", "innocent", "used", while the facts, evidence and wiretaps available to the Greek police lead to the idea that Lekocaj has actually had and still has an important role in the underworld of Albanian and Greek criminal groups.
Lekocaj has often emerged through wiretaps and testimony as having strange connections to criminal groups, making hired killers available to them or to himself. Such was the case of September 14, 2022, when the Greek police randomly arrested two Albanians, Viktor Çala, 39, and Andi Beqiri, 23.
They were caught in Athens, after 2 Kalashnikovs and 1 knife were found hidden in their vehicle, while 1 pistol was found in the apartment. The police investigation revealed that Çala was the author of the murder of a Greek and the attempted murder of an Albanian, both events that occurred in July 2022. He stated that he had been ordered to kill the Greek by Klodian Lekocaj, due to the disruption of drug deals. Thus, "Klod", who is also known in the Greek cartels as "Luli" or "Ilia", was then charged with another charge after previous charges for ordering the murders of Greek lawyer Mixalis Zafiropoulos, prisoner Arbër Bako, prisoner Bardhyl Tusha, involvement in the attempted murder of a Pakistani, fining former Greek Minister Dimitri Tsovola, aiding in the escape of prisoners Leonard and Elvis Pepa, etc. Klodi, in fact, besides the orders, has precedents as a direct perpetrator. He was initially arrested in 1997 for theft. In 2003, he escaped from Volos Prison, while in 2005 in Agio Pantaleimona he shot and wounded an Albanian in the stomach, and then in the same place in 2006, together with two Albanians, he stabbed a fellow countryman.
In 2013 he was arrested for drug trafficking and theft and was sent to Corfu prison where after receiving permission he escaped in 2014 and a few days later together with Arber Bako he participated in the attempted robbery resulting in the injury of an Egyptian while on October 31, 2014 together with Arber Bako, Olti Dulce and a Pole committed a murder in the Metaxurgio area. Finally Lekocaj was arrested in November 2014 in Sepolia, in the company of Dhimo Meci, a Gjirokaster involved in several contract killings in Greece and who at the time of his capture was a wanted person. Their arrest came after the Mikrolimano incident where Arber Bako with a Kalashnikov injured several customers of a bar in the area.
Klodian Lekocaj is also mentioned as having had connections with Albanians Elvis Bogdani and Ari Papa, previously executed in Greece.
In 2019, Lekocaj was accused of recruiting a hitman from Albania to execute a Pakistani, while in March 2023, Lekocaj was charged with fined 100,000 euros to a Greek businessman.
