None of the characters in the extraordinary story lives with the dead who comes back to life after four years. Even the foundations of the house-hut, their shelter at the edge of the city of Memaliaj, have been completely destroyed. The sister-in-law of the woman with the sad fate who disappeared and appeared as in the legend has finally been extinguished, which has revealed what was not known about the mysterious event. Dizi Dyrmish's confession, apart from the insurance documents, is the only authentic evidence for the incredible story...

Part Three

Continued from Part One and Part Two

"When we heard that Erveheja appeared in Lushnja, we did not believe it. We couldn't believe it. That it had never happened before that the dead rose from the grave".
At the same time as the impressions from the dramatic moments when Ervehe's family members were introduced to the incredible news, Dizi Dyrmishi, one of their relatives, remembers the experiences from the meeting with the newly resurrected "dead" and the three family members who were convicted for her murder. "I was extremely shocked when I heard from the latter, the 80-year-old confesses, how they were forced to accept the crime that had never occurred to them". From the way they showed her this mysterious part, she fixed in her memory the moments when one of the arrested women was taken to her cell with a pile of animal bones and told that they belonged to Ervehe. The investigators who claimed to have taken them out of the grave where Çerçizi had taken them, wanted to join his testimony, otherwise the head of the family would be cut by the rope. In these conditions, adds the relative of the Dyrmishi family, the poor women did what they were told. Then what happened happened..." But what else does the 80-year-old Dyrmishi remember from this unusual story.

In 1959, three of your relatives were convicted of murdering the daughter of the house, Ervehena. Under what circumstances did this event happen and how did you experience it?

It was a serious event and it shocked us a lot. Our tribe, Dyrmish, is a big tribe. At that time, most of them lived in Koprenckë of Skrapar. There were those who had come to Tirana, especially those who had been educated and worked in the army. Only the family of Çerçiz had gone to Memaliaj.
Poverty and difficult conditions in his native village had forced him to go to work and live there. This was a move for a living, for a better life, but it turned out badly. Çerçizi got married there. Then Erveheja got married. When things seemed to be going well, Ervehesa's divorce happened. After that, what happened happened. Further, what can I say. Things went from bad to worse. Then the murder…

How are you familiar with the news that Ervehena was killed by Çerçizi and her mother?

We learned this when they were arrested, but we didn't believe it right away. We had no reason to believe it. Such a tragedy had never happened before, at least until that time. For the mother to kill the son, for the brother to strangle the sister. How much more did Çerçizi do this with his mother, two loving and hard-working people in their plight that they could not even crush a fly. However, the way the word was opened, it fell on us like a bomb...

The arrest of Çerçiz and other family members took place three years after Ervehe's departure from home. Until then, did you know about her fate?

We pretty much knew they lived in poverty. We also knew that they had a problem with Ervehena. We had heard that she had a conflict with her husband in Progonat and left his house, leaving the two children there. Cherchizi and his mother tried to unite them, but they did not succeed. This shocked the family, sparked endless arguments. In the ongoing debate, then Erveheja left. He left without saying where he was going.
Family members thought he would return. A day, two, three, a week, a month passed. She was never seen again. Cherchizin and the others were covered with shame and cowered in their plight, without making a sound. Such a situation continued for three years. Only after three years, her disappearance set the police in motion. The reason for this, as far as I remember, was a relative of ours from Skrapari. After his signal, the search began. If they had started in time, her story would have had a different course...

So, after three years you found out that Čerçizi had killed him and his mother...

After three years that we knew he was missing, we received the news that Çerçizi killed him. What seemed unbelievable to us at first was unfortunately proving to be true. During the judicial process, Çerçizi first, and after him his mother and his wife openly claimed that they had killed him with their own hands in secret and buried him at night by the river. This was the end of any kind of dilemma about the murder of Ervehe. No one showed any further doubts. They fled to prison and little by little the echo of the event faded away. As far as I remember, the prosecutor sentenced Cherchizi to death. 25-year-old mother and 15-year-old wife.

How did you receive the news that Erveheja was alive?

At that time we lived in Tirana. An acquaintance of ours from Skrapari, who had come to the hospital for a problem, told us that he had heard that Ervehesa's story was not true. At first we didn't pay attention to it, we took it for the delusion of a sick man. That we could not believe such nonsense, four years after the serious event. What's more, until then we hadn't even heard the slightest doubt. Everything was taken for granted. Even Ervehe's mother and brother, who have been in prison in Gjirokastër for a long time, also experienced this. However…

However, the news had been true…

True, but unbelievable. How could reason accept something like that? That he had never done anything to take a dead man from the grave! When we got it right, we were shocked beyond measure, and we were just as happy. The brother-in-law who had met with Ervehena in Lushnja, told us that the event was much more complicated than we knew...

How did Erveheja tell her brother-in-law when they met?

She didn't know what had happened to her mother and Cherchizi. He had no idea what had been said about him since the day he left. Erveheja was surprised by the surprise expressed by acquaintances when he met them. She had told him that she had been married for three years and lived in Leskovik, together with her husband and a child. He had recently come to the farm in Lushnja.

I believe that the news about Ervehena restored peace in the Dyrmishi family...

Some calm, but still the family of Çerçiz and Ervehe was hit and split in two. The drama they had been through had been intense, terrible. Their fate went bad even later, despite the joy caused by the reappearance of Ervehesa and the release from prison of the mother and Çerçiz. Apparently, they were not meant to laugh. However, from the fact that they returned to normal life and especially the clarification about the truth of that unfinished crime, something for the better moved in their lives. That it was not easy to point the finger at you as the murderer of the sister and the daughter of the house...

How did Çerçizi explain the circumstances in which he had accepted the murder and burial of his sister?

He had no desire to return to this story. When he got out of prison, he was lonely and silent. The few things we learned about it were told by his mother and his wife, Fatima. When they talked, they were surprised even by what had happened. They had accepted terrible things, undone, under conditions of pressure and fear...

So they had been pressured, tortured...

You can't imagine what they had done to them. Extreme pressure, torture. Only to admit that they had committed the murder. They had gone so far as to bring animal bones to their cells, telling them they were from Ervehe.

Who brought them the bones, what were they looking for through them?

A stale but shocking trick. The investigators of the case, one day after seeing their attitude, thought of this evil. They went somewhere, took a group of animal bones and arrived at their cell with them in hand. - Look carefully, they said to the poor women, - they are the remains of Ervehe, we took them out of the grave that Çerçizi showed us. Your evidence saves him from being shot, otherwise... Under such conditions, they "surrendered" and did what they signed. Çerçizi had suffered a little worse, who had finally affirmed everything they had dictated to him. With this miserable matter, they went to court and were sentenced./End! / Pamphlet
