It appears that Eurovision 2025 will bring changes to the announcement of countries qualifying from the semi-finals, increasing the element of suspense.
According to what was revealed in an SRF documentary, the scenario seems to foresee the presentation of three countries at the same time, with only one of them being announced as the winner at the end - an approach reminiscent of talent shows such as X Factor. The change is expected to be tested in the dress rehearsal of the first semi-final on May 12.
The information comes from the SRF documentary “Der Weg zum ESC 2025” (“The Road to Eurovision 2025”), which allegedly reveals the new format for announcing the semi-final qualifiers. As reported by ESC Discord, the scenario presented in the documentary talks about the countries appearing in groups of three, from which only one qualifies, thus increasing the tension.
The possibility of changes to the announcement method had already been announced by Eurovision 2025 executive producers Reto Peric and Moritz Stadler, who, speaking on The Euro Trip Podcast, stated that the aim is to add "more excitement and suspense" to the semi-final experience.
Similar experiments were carried out in 2023, at the Liverpool competition, during rehearsals, when all the participants took to the stage together for the announcement, X Factor style.
