The iconic Albanian film "Kapedani" was restored in 4K. The daughter of the protagonist of the movie "Zha Beqo", Asinja Xhija shows her emotions.
Aksinja remembers every shooting of the movie "Kapedani". She did not act herself, but her father, Nikolin Xhoja, whom everyone knows from this film as Xha Beqo.
"It's a very exciting moment for me. It was the years 71-71. I was with the crew filming in Borsh, Dhërmi and I have all the scenes photographed. It was one of my father's favorite movies. The role of the father had few jokes. They have been added slowly. The protagonist was Albert Boria. From the jokes added by the author, Xha Beqo became the protagonist" , said the actor's daughter Nikolin Xhoja.
It is located in Albania for the premiere of this film that underwent a 4K restoration that still gives the same emotion today after more than 50 years since it was shot. As she shows us moments from the shooting, she singles out the magical atmosphere and respect among the staff who were making this film, which even today, after so many years, is watched with the same love.
"We were a big family. I miss that atmosphere, that great dedication that was in the film. An emotionally strong moment was when we were going to shoot on the beach and there was a prison for political prisoners. We didn't know and they shouted Nikolin Xhoja. We are touched. In all situations in the world, art keeps everyone's morale high ", said Aksinja Xhoja.
This jewel of Albanian art, which will be inviolable for all generations, is expected to already participate in international festivals, said Marinela Ndria, director of the Central State Film Archive.
"One of the criteria when we participate in international festivals is that the film be restored. We are very happy that the way is open. I believe in 2025, we will be at an international festival abroad. I believe that it will be applauded a lot in the international arena. The film comes digitized in 4K. Let's say it's the best of everything. It started in May and comes with English subtitles. Depending on the festivals, we subtitle them in different languages" , said Marinela Ndria, director of the Central State Film Archive.
The film "Kapedani", which remains one of the best productions of Kinostudio "New Albania", is also subtitled in English. The film tells the story of the old man with a white mustache, Sulo, played by Albert Verria, who leaves his village for the capital to find out why women have been given the same rights as men. This film still occupies an important place in the collective memory of Albanians and is regularly broadcast on national television.
