As is the case with most of his books, Ben Blushi takes real characters and places them in a different historical context or circumstances that they did not live through. In his second novel entitled Otello Arapi i Vlora, Blushi has borrowed the classic character of Shakespeare, Otello, a black general of the Republic of Venice, whom he has transformed into a slave who accidentally comes to Vlora with his owner. Previously, he acted like this in the novel Living on the Island with Skenderbeu, Ali Pasha etij.
Ben Blushi has used this technique, which makes his literary style even more strange and attractive, in his latest novel, Plot, which has created a lot of debate in recent days due to the prediction that Shengjin could turn into a city of refugees after several years. Mohamed Durrani
Mohamed Durrani, is an Afghan who in the book is elected Minister of Defense of Albania in 2043. He is the son of the Durrani dynasty which really existed in Afghanistan. The founder of this dynasty, which at the time included a territory three times larger than all of Europe, was Ahmed Shah Durrani who, in 1747, united many nomadic tribes and created modern Afghanistan. Mohamed Durrani marries a Catholic Albanian woman and organizes the liberation of Kosovo from the Serbs, which is why the Conspiracy was born.
Lavi Elton
Lavi Elton is a character created by Blushi, a rich Jew who lives in Albania and who at a certain point in the novel blocks all the oil of Albania to stop the invasion of Kosovo by Mohamed Durrani. But Lavi Elton is the grandson of a real personage, an English journalist of Jewish origin who in 1935 proposed that the state of Israel be settled in Albania. Leon Elton traveled to the Balkans and made a long report about Albania and its advantages as a suitable territory to become a Jewish state. His proposal was not taken into account by the Jewish Congress which decided a few years later that the state of Israel should be located in the lands of Palestine where it is today and not in Albania.
Leonid Trotsky
Leonid Trotsky is the main character of The Plot, the man who seeks to avert World War III by restoring communism to the world. Leonid Trotsky, as a created character, is the nephew of Leon Trotsky, the famous Russian communist, implementer of the October revolution together with Lenin. In 1913, a Kiev newspaper sent Trotsky to the Albanian areas of today's Macedonia, to report on the Serbian massacres of the Albanian population. This is a true fact. Here is also the connection that Blushi has made between the real Trotsky and his imaginary nephew in The Plot.
Lana Sator
Lana Sator or more precisely Svetlana Timofeeva is a Russian photographer who was arrested at a military plant in Gramsh in 2022 and accused of being a spy. Lana Sator is the stage name of this well-known photographer who photographed most of the factories and plants of the Soviet Union throughout the East, including Albania. This was her claim when she was caught in Gramsh and then tried as an agent. In The Conspiracy, Blushi has taken this real character and brought her out of prison by marrying Leonid Trotsky in Albania in 2044, after she was released from prison for espionage. Lana Sator plays a key role in advancing Trotsky's idea. for the return of communism in the world.
Raul Fico
One of the most important characters in The Conspiracy is Raul Fico, a diplomat who in the book is elected Prime Minister in Albania in 2044. Raul Fico is the grandson of the well-known diplomat and former foreign minister of Albania, Rauf Fico. The latter was very active in the years between the two World Wars to avoid the invasion of the country, and the Italians, when they invaded Albania, kept him in exile for several years until he died. Raul FIco gives an unexpected direction to the Plot of Blush.
