World-renowned actor Liam Neeson has announced that he will retire from acting in 2025, ending an illustrious career that has spanned decades. Neeson's decision to leave the cinema scene comes after successful years in various roles, but for Albanians he will be remembered especially for his role in the "Taken" film series.
In these films, Neeson portrayed a determined father who confronts Albanian kidnappers from Tropoja who try to traffic his daughter. This role created a special connection between the actor and Albanians, albeit controversially, as the portrayal of Albanians in the film was criticized for spreading stereotypes.
This even prompted a campaign titled "Taken by Albania", which aimed to change the perception and invite Neeson to visit Albania to see the beautiful and welcoming side of the country.
