Starmer: Takimi mund të jetë një hap historik për Ukrainën

Trump gathers EU leaders/ From territory swap to 'clash' over

Macron suggests 'quadrilateral' meeting: Security of all of Europe is at risk

Trump gathers EU leaders/ From territory swap to 'clash' over

Speaking at Trump's meeting with EU leaders, French President Emmanuel Macron said that while he welcomed a trilateral meeting between Russia, Ukraine and the US, it was important that a "quadruple" summit be held afterwards.

It is not clear whether Macron means a meeting in which only France participates, or whether he means that NATO, the EU or the Coalition of the Willing should be the fourth member.

The French leader says this is necessary because "when we talk about security guarantees, we talk about the entire security of the European continent."

One guarantee that Macron clearly wants out of any deal is that Ukraine will be able to have a “reliable” army for “years and decades to come.”

He says this will come with a commitment from European leaders at the negotiating table to offer Ukraine their security guarantee.

The French president says Trump can be sure that "the Europeans are very clear about the fact that they have their fair share of security guarantees for Ukraine, but their security is clearly at risk in this situation."

Rutte congratulates Trump for breaking the 'ice' with Putin, Von der Leyen welcomes security guarantees

Trump gathers EU leaders/ From territory swap to 'clash' over

As EU leaders are speaking at the White House, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte praises President Trump for "breaking the deadlock" with President Putin by "starting dialogue."

Rutte added that "if we play this well, we can end this," referring to the war in Ukraine.

The NATO leader then adds that it is "very important" that Trump is saying he is "ready to participate" in security guarantees for Ukraine - saying it is "a big step" and a "breakthrough".

In response, Trump praises NATO countries for increasing their defense spending from 2% of GDP "which has not always been paid" to 5% "which has been paid."

While Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the EU commission, also welcomed the security guarantee being offered by the Americans.

"It's very good to hear that we are working on security guarantees, security guarantees similar to Article Five," she says.

This is the principle that an attack on one NATO member is an attack on the entire alliance.

"How did you get so angry, I'm jealous," Merz-Trump clash; German Chancellor calls for ceasefire

Trump gathers EU leaders/ From territory swap to 'clash' over

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and US President Donald Trump clashed over public statements regarding Ukraine.

And while there was talk of peace in Ukraine and a stop to the killings, the German Chancellor, unlike those present, spoke of a ceasefire, describing it as the next step, before talking about the trilateral meeting that could lead to peace.

"The next step is the most complicated, but the path is open and you opened it, we would like to see a ceasefire from the next meeting, the trilateral one," Merz said.

"Let's increase the pressure on Russia," said Merz, the only one among European leaders to speak about a ceasefire, ahead of the trilateral meeting with Putin.

But Trump explained that there was no need for a ceasefire in the six wars he has resolved. But ultimately, that is in the hands of Putin and Zelensky, Trump added.

The German Chancellor's statement did not please Trump, who emphatically said there was no ceasefire in any war that I resolved.

"Well, how did you get so angry? I'm jealous," he told German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

Trump gathers EU leaders/ From territory swap to 'clash' over

Speaking alongside European leaders and Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had a "very good" conversation with President Trump. He then provided details from that conversation.

" We talked about very sensitive points. The first is security guarantees. Security in Ukraine depends on the United States, on you and on those leaders who are with us in our hearts. Many countries are on the side of Ukraine, our people, and we all want to end this war. We will talk more about security guarantees. It is very important that the United States gives such strong signals and is ready for security guarantees ," he said.

He thanked Melania Trump again for her letter to Vladimir Putin regarding the kidnapped Ukrainian children, as he did in the Oval Office earlier.

" What is very important is that all the sensitive things, territorial, etc., we will discuss at the leadership level during the trilateral meeting and President Trump will try to organize such a meeting ," he said.

Zelenskyy added: " I showed the president a lot of details on the battlefield, on the map. Thanks for the map, by the way ."

Trump and Zelenskyy then politely joked that they would make sure the Ukrainian took the map home with him.

Trump gathers EU leaders/ From territory swap to 'clash' over

"Thank you very much. We had a very good day, we all have a common goal to stop the killings. I had the honor of talking to President Zelensky, we talked about many issues, I spoke indirectly with Putin, I will talk to him during the day, maybe we will have a trilateral meeting."

"We haven't seen anything like this since World War II," said Donald Trump, US President, at a White House roundtable with European leaders on Ukraine.

Trump did not hesitate to compliment all those present, some more and some less, while emphasizing the trilateral meeting.

Regarding territorial issues, Trump said it is up to President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people to decide what they want to do.

"I am optimistic that we can reach an agreement that will determine the future of Ukraine," Trump said, emphasizing that the next step will be the trilateral meeting.

The US President then said that "we prefer an immediate ceasefire, but we are working towards a long-term peace."

"I like a ceasefire because it stops the killing, but a peace agreement is possible. As soon as I walk out the door, a conflict could start somewhere else and I will stop it," he said.
