"Big lie". This is how the head of the Municipality of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, considered Belind Këlliç's accusations against Mariglen Qaton on April 27, 2023. The latter was accused at that time by Kelliçi of having employed family members in the municipality, while his brother and father-in-law had companies that received tenders worth millions of euros from the Municipality of Tirana. At that time, Veliaj said that he had verified the accusation and filed a defamation report.
"I have been informed about the case and a charge of defamation has been submitted to the prosecutor's office. It doesn't seem like that to me and it seems like a very big lie. And precisely because this is not the case, I am glad that the legal procedure has started and I say we will wait. This is all a slander" - Veliaj said at that time in the show "Opinion".

Asked in "Top Story" on TCH why at that time he considered the opposition's accusations to be lies without verifying them, Veliaj said that the court confirms the accusations and that most of the opposition's accusations are slander.
"And therefore it is the court that certifies these. If you look today, there are endless accusations from the opposition, but if you look until today, most of them have been dismissed or closed as cases because they were untrue. So this is decided by the court. If this is true, they will receive the deserved punishment, if it is untrue and unproven, they will be rehabilitated" - said Veliaj./Lapsi
