From a deputy, he became prime minister, then speaker of the Assembly and finally president. But Ilir Meta ended his career in a not at all glorious way, behind bars.
The leader of the Freedom Party was arrested today during a flash operation by the police along the Tirana-Durres highway, near the Kamza roundabout. Meta was returning from Kosovo and it is learned that he was followed from Morina by the Operational Forces, which intervened just like in the movies.
The operatives were in masks and in civilian cars. In the videos of the arrest, it can be seen that Meta resists and is forcibly taken out of the car. He was immediately taken and sent to the Police Directorate of Tirana and from there to the Security Block at "Mine Peza".
According to the sources, Ilir Meta is accused of 3 criminal offences: passive corruption of a high state official, laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense and concealment or non-declaration of assets.
In the meantime, Monika Kryemadhi has been ordered to appear. There are also security measures against Pirro Xixho, the former head of AKEP, who was placed under house arrest, while Ema Çok was ordered to appear. Pirro Xixho is also the father of the vice president of the Freedom Party, Erisa Xixho.
According to the information, the investigations against Meta were carried out by prosecutors Sotir Kllapi, Arben Kraja and Altin Dumani himself, while the judge who issued the measures is Erjon Çela.
The accusations against Meta
According to information, Meta was arrested for the lobbying file in the USA, the CEZ-DIA scandal and the affair with SGS. During the last 30 years, Meta has been accused of many crimes, starting from the theft of gold in 1997, to affairs as prime minister in (2002), when he was in Berisha's government, he revealed how he stole. Likewise, when he spent time with Rama, he was accused of having a hand in the murder. So the feats are endless, while SPAK has managed to try some of them.
The CEZ-DIA affair
Në prill të vitit 2022, SPAK ka rihapur dosjen e CEZ-DIA të vjedhjes së parave publike. Vetëm në një rast, 1 ditë para zgjedhjeve të 28 qershorit 2019, Meta dyshohet se i kërkon Kastriot Ismailajt, bashkëshortit të Vojsavës (i dënuar me 11 vite burg), 200 mijë (besohet euro) me urgjencë. Jozef Hejsek, ish-shefi ekzekutiv i CEZ, ka deklaruar Ilir Meta ka rekomanduar Kastriot Ismailajn me kompaninë DIA si “njeriun e tij të besuar” për mbledhjen e borxheve të vjetra për llogari të CEZ. Dritan Prifti, një nga njerëzit më të afërt të Ilir Metës, ka rrëfyer se Meta pati udhëtuar në Çeki për të negociuar kontratën për Kastriot Ismailajn, të cilin e konsideronte si një person me dosje. Gruaja e Kastriot Ismailajt, Vojsava, ka rrëfyer lidhjet e forta mes Ilir Metës dhe bashkëshortit të saj. Ajo ka treguar për vizitat familje dhe SMS-të që Meta i niste Kastriot Ismailajt duke i kërkuar para.
Aferat e kunatit
Në 25 korrik, SPAK ka regjistruar një tjetër procedim penal ka regjistruar një tjetër procedim penal nr. 137, për shpërdorim detyre, korrupsion dhe pastrim parash. Të kallëzuar janë Ilir Meta, Monika Kryemadhi, vëllai i Monikës, Drini Kryemadhi dhe vjehrri i Drinit, Nuri Peti. Drini Kryemadhi dyshohet se ka marrë rreth 360 mijë USD nga kompania e kolaudimit SGS, në formë pagash, gjatë periudhës 2013-2020, me funksionin inxhinier mekanik. Drini Kryemadhi e kishte pagën më të lartë se sa CEO i SGS, në dhjetor të 2020 ka marrë edhe një shpërblim me vlerë 30 mijë USD, ndërsa dyshohet se nuk ka shkuar fare në punë.
Dosja e lobimeve
Ilir Meta ka paguar rreth 700 mijë dollarë te kompania “McKeon Group” për lobime në SHBA por nuk i ka deklaruar. 90 mijë dollarë janë paguar nga avokati Iraklis Fidetzis, ndërsa 600 mijë të tjera sërish nga Fidetzis por përmes kompanisë “Dorelita Limited”, e regjistruar si offshore në Qipro.
Kontrata e parë e lobimit është nënshkruar nga Iraklis Fidetzis në emër të LSI-së dhe Ilir Metës. Kontrata parashikonte sigurimin e një ftese për Ilir Metën si pjesëmarrës në inaugurimin e Donald Trump, organizimin e takimeve me ligjvënës dhe drejtues të tjerë të administratës amerikane në Uashington gjatë kësaj ceremonie dhe pas 20 janarit 2017, zhvillimi dhe promovimi i marrëdhënieve të mira me administratën e re të Donald Trump dhe Kongresin amerikan.
Në shkurt të 2017, pikërisht për ditën e Shën Valentinit, "McKeon Group", sipas dokumentacionit të dorëzuar te autoritetet amerikane njofton tërheqjen nga kontrata, që Fidetzis i jepte 15 mijë dollarë në muaj.
Pas kësaj tërheqjeje, “McKeon Group”, sipas dokumenteve të dorëzuara në Departamentin e Drejtësisë ka nënshkruar një tjetër kontratë të dytë lobuese, këtë herë me kompaninë “Dorelita Limited”. Kontrata është nënshkruar më 24 mars të 2017-s. Sipas kontratës, grupi ngarkohej që të lobonte për 6 muaj për llogari të kompanisë “Dorelita Limited” dhe individëve të lidhur me të.
Fshehja e pasurisë dhe pastrimi i parave

The Sanader scheme
The scheme that sent Ilir Meta behind bars is that of SPAK's sister in Croatia, where former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader was arrested.
His case is similar in many respects to Meta's. The former president is accused of having benefited by favoring CEZ-DIA. While Ivo Sander was convicted because he had benefited €10,000,000 from the Hungarian company "MOL", to favor it in the Croatian market.
Regarding the investigations, journalists reported that Sanader wore very expensive wristwatches, one of which was worth over 100,000 Euros. (Meta has villas and apartments) The investigation started after the first indications and it was very difficult to gather evidence. The investigation was carried out by a team consisting of 7 Prosecutors who worked 16 hours a day including Saturdays and Sundays. Important facts were obtained, leading to the conclusion that the former prime minister was involved in criminal corrupt activities. Various witnesses have been contacted where they have given very important facts especially for the beginning of the process.
During the investigation, more than 500 people were interrogated, some of them more than once repeatedly. One of them, an accomplice with the former prime minister, is Mladen Barisic and was questioned 19 times, as the prosecutors did not believe in his statements. Prosecutors have asked the court to install camera monitoring and audio recordings. Also, a detailed financial investigation was conducted regarding Sanader's wealth. There has been cooperation with the anti-money laundering agency, the tax administration and special legal assistance from Austria and the US.
More or less the same thing happened with Meta, from evidence to wealth. The charges are almost identical and the scheme is the same. Sanader was sentenced 3 times with a total of nearly 18 years in prison and the signals are that this end is inevitable for the former Albanian president. / Pamphlet
