The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, participated today in the 50th anniversary ceremony of the Kosovo Academy of Sciences and Arts, held in Pristina.
In his speech, the Head of State praised the historical role of the institution in the development of scientific and cultural thought in Kosovo.
"This institution has been and continues to be a compass of scientific thought, the preservation of national values, and a promoter of cultural and intellectual development," said Begaj.
He emphasized that the 50th anniversary of ASHAK represents a journey of knowledge and intellectual commitment.
"Today we celebrate the half-century journey of knowledge, sacrifice and intellectual, civic and national dedication. We celebrate the life of an institution that was born in difficult conditions, but which rose to the height of other sister institutions of developed nations," said the President.
Begaj respectfully commemorated the figures who have contributed to keeping the Albanian language and culture alive in Kosovo.
"Today we commemorate the leaders of the Albanian school, the professors of the normal school, the first Albanian researchers and Albanologists... who worked with dedication and sacrifice to keep Albanian education, language and culture alive," he emphasized.
The President noted that many of them worked in difficult circumstances, often deprived of the basic tools of scientific work.
"They may not have had the luxury of long academic traditions, but they had the ideal and the resilience for freedom and to pave the way for knowledge... with a sublime patriotism," said Begaj.
He underlined that thanks to this generation of intellectuals, "the Albanian culture, language, history and national identity in Kosovo managed to survive and flourish."
The President then emphasized the importance of cooperation between the Albanian Academy of Sciences and that of Kosovo: "In this history of resistance, Albania has always been by your side. The Albanian Academy of Sciences, the University of Tirana and our academic institutions cooperated closely with our colleagues in Kosovo."
Begaj also praised the role of the Albanian diaspora in preserving and developing cultural and scientific values.
In concluding his speech, he stated that the 50th anniversary of the Academy is celebrated by honoring "tens and hundreds of personalities of knowledge and art who, with their work, talent and integrity, created the foundations of this institution."
