Sali Berisha's statements towards the head of the European Union Delegation in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, have brought a reaction from diplomats from EU countries, who considered the accusations made against him unacceptable.
The leader of the Democratic Party had described Gonzato as "Edi Rama's ambassador", and later stated that he fully stands by his comments.
Berisha said that every statement he makes is based on sources he considers reliable and stressed that he will not stop denouncing what, according to him, are unjust actions.
He expressed that he respects the European Commission and the ambassadors, but does not agree with some positions that he considers unacceptable. According to him, he has repeatedly denounced these cases and will continue to do so in the future.
"I declare that absolutely everything I have said is based on several sources. I have respect and sympathy for the European Commission and the ambassadors. Nothing prevents me from denouncing what I consider unjust. I do not want to argue, but I do not agree with unacceptable acts, so I have continuously denounced them and will denounce the truths, I cannot hide them. Otherwise I would not be who I am," he said.
Yesterday, the European Union reacted after statements by DP Leader Sali Berisha towards the EU Ambassador to Albania, Silvio Gonzato.
According to a European Commission spokesperson, such statements are unacceptable and the EU strongly condemns them.
The reaction posted on the EU mission's official Facebook page states that, "The EU strongly condemns the personal attacks made on Europe Day against the European Union Ambassador to Albania.
"The EU Ambassador has acted at all times with complete professionalism and integrity," the European Union's response is quoted as saying.
Leader of the Democratic Party Berisha has called Gonzato "Edi Rama's ambassador," who, according to him, has transmitted false information to Brussels.
