The chairman of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, said that the DP under the leadership of Sali Berisha has had many positive achievements, as he emphasized that he represents an important part of the history of the DP.
However, Basha said that the path chosen by Berisha harmed the interests of the party.
"I have a constant attitude towards Berisha. He had the responsibility and the privilege of leading the DP for a long time. He has achieved many good things with DP for Albania. I do not change anything from what I have said. Of course, I gave my contribution, which Berisha appreciated more than anyone else, even publicly. The path that Berisha chose harmed the interests of DP. If the path that I proposed had been followed, we would be in a much better situation", said Basha.
As for the measure of house arrest against him, Basha said that on a personal level "he is not happy" to see Berisha in that position, but he underlined that on a procedural level the person who advised the former prime minister not to appear at SPAK has made a terrible mistake resulting in his arrest.
"On a personal level, I am not at all happy to see him in this position. On the procedural level, the one who advised him not to appear, made a huge mistake. We as politicians have a duty to give unconditional support to justice, and it should show seriousness in cases like these, not treat someone above the law. Considering the public sensitivity, it should show special seriousness", said Basha in News 24.
