Begaj in Kosovo for the 25th anniversary of liberation: You are not alone, every

The Assembly of Kosovo held a solemn session today on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the country's liberation. On this occasion, the President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, also gave a speech.

He recalled the great contribution of the historical president Ibrahim Rugova, and the activity of the national issue, Adem Demaçi. The sacrifice of the Jashari family was not left unmentioned either, whom he called "flakadans of freedom".

According to Begaj, the internationals were the drafters and implementers of the Kosovo state formation project. He emphasized that Kosovo is not alone, as every battle it has will be Albania's as well.

"Albanians need to preserve and strengthen national and socio-cultural cohesion even today. In the challenges of times, eras and injustices, Albanians have inviolable Albanianism. We need a manifesto of national pride more than ever. Serbia and its allies, a malicious campaign to smear the war for the liberation of Kosovo. Kosovo is not alone. Kosovo will not be alone, every battle of yours is our battle. Every success of yours is the success of all Albania", the head of the Albanian state concluded his speech.

The full speech of President Bajram Begaj:

On June 12, 1999, NATO troops entered Kosovo, finally liberating the country from the Serbian occupier. On this day, the centuries-old dream of the people of Kosovo for freedom was fulfilled.

On such holy anniversaries for Albanians, we bow with respect to the martyrs and prominent figures who, with their lives and work for the freedom and independence of Kosovo, left an indelible mark on the memory and history of the Albanian nation.

Today we honor Ibrahim Rugova, the architect of the eternal Independence of Kosovo, the symbol of peaceful resistance, the intellectual elite, who with his philosophy of peace decided the issue of Kosovo in all Western chancelleries.

Today we honor Adem Demaç, the activist of the national issue, tireless in his battle for more than five decades, the lapidary challenger of 28 years in the prisons of the former Yugoslavia. Today we bow before the Jashars, the symbolic family of martyrdom for independent Kosovo, flamboyants of its freedom.

We honor the leader Adem Jashari, living legend of patriotism. Such men rarely make history. Today is the day to remember all the fighters of the Kosovo Liberation Army, those who sacrificed their lives for a free and independent Kosovo and those who passed on the legacy of their comrades to the younger generations: Freedom is not a gift. She must be protected!

Kosovo was not alone. Hundreds of their brothers from Tirana, Tropoja, Kukësi, Kruma, Kavaja, Vlora, Berat, Tepelena, Chameria, Montenegro, North Macedonia and from the entire Albanian Diaspora joined the war. In the foundations of Kosovo's freedom, they were sacrificed, like Soldier Kavaja, Commander Shpendi, Commander Tahiri, brave men who did not fear death.

Albania opened its heart and the doors of its houses to protect its brothers and sisters from Kosovo, forcibly expelled as a result of the wave of ethnic cleansing and genocide of Milosevic. Kosovo was not alone!

The international community, especially strategic partners such as the United States, Great Britain, the European Union and NATO were strong and unwavering supporters of its cause.

Their intervention stopped ethnic cleansing, genocide, and gave justice to the spirit of a rebellious people who were seeking a denied right; freedom.

They were the drafters and implementers of the Kosovo state formation project. Two states, one people, one nation, one blood, one language, one double-headed eagle, one history, one Euro-Atlantic dream and aspiration. Old and new history has proven that Albanians, wherever they are, united their identifying symbols.

In the challenges of times, eras and geopolitical injustices, Albanians have kept sacred and inviolable the sense of Albanianness. Albanians need to preserve and strengthen their national and socio-cultural cohesion even today.

At a time when Serbia and its allies have mobilized diplomatic and media capacities in a deeply malicious campaign to tarnish the fair and principled struggle of the Albanians for the liberation of Kosovo, we need more than ever to be together, we need more than ever for a manifesto of national pride, which does not have to complicate us.

We cannot allow the equalization between Serbian programmed crime and the fight for the dignity, survival and freedom of the Albanians in Kosovo.

We cannot allow crime to appear as a virtue, at a time when the democratic world, our friends, are doing their best to eliminate the various obstacles to simplify Albanian-Serbian coexistence according to European models.

History recognizes us Albanians as peace-loving, who love and greatly value freedom. As such, today we have a great responsibility to maintain and strengthen peace, security and development in a space that inspires European democratic values.

Our aspirations for the Euro-Atlantic integration of the Albanian factor are stronger than ever, and we will continue to work tirelessly to realize this objective. Today we still face efforts to hinder the new state of Kosovo, which is struggling to consolidate its state identity, space and place in Europe.

We are aware that the cause of Kosovo has not ended, but we are steadfast in our conviction that the reality, the Republic of Kosovo, independent and sovereign, is indisputable and inalienable.

The Albanian state feels its duty and mission to support every effort of the government of Kosovo, of its institutions to factor the Republic of Kosovo as a state that respects human rights and freedoms, adheres to the Euro-Atlantic spirit, that maintains and inherits the friendships that are ours found in our darkest days, trusting, listening, following and being advised by strategic partners, the US and the EU.

Albania has worked and will work to utilize all its capacity and the international institutional spaces in which it is a part to expand the number of countries for the recognition of the state of Kosovo and its integration into international organizations, as well as to discover all of the truth, still unknown, of the crimes and genocide committed in Kosovo, of those thousands of tortured and missing victims, of the atrocities and massacres unprecedented in the modern history of humanity.

Expresses the conviction that humble before the sacrifice of the martyrs, responsible before the history and courageous before the future, Kosovo will build a society where peace and prosperity will prevail.
Kosovo is not alone. Kosovo will not be alone. Kosovo is a success story. Every battle of yours is our battle! Every success of yours is the success of all Albania! Happy Liberation Day!
