For the first time, Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has claimed that the Democratic Party has a fundamental problem with the Diaspora. The statement was made as Berisha presented the new direction of the “Brain Gain” program, a department that operates within the DP and that aims to identify young people living in the Diaspora and new policies that can be offered by them. Berisha even said that there will be statutory changes in the DP’s status to correct what he considered injustice in relation to this Department.
" This department did not simply remain in the field of principles and doctrine, but moved into important, fundamental actions for the DP."
The initiatives of this department have been absolutely the most important and undertaken by any department in the history of the DP.
Their initiative, the protection of the heritage of this party, at a time when a deceptive, national and international propaganda aimed at its destruction.
Proud of their being so democratic and as Albanians. Each of them could have given up, integrated into another country, where they live. These came with the initiative of symbols, in foggy times.
The dramatic developments in the country made one forget even the democratic symbols. This department transformed this party into the headquarters of numerous cultural activities, protecting the image of the DP.
I want to admit that the DP has a fundamental problem, towards this department and towards the Diaspora, to which it must respond.
The procedures set by this party lack a universal character. This is not a party only of those who live in Tirana. The DP is not a party only of its branches in Lezha or Durrës, but also of its branches in Paris, Milan or Athens.
These shortcomings must receive statutory responses. Receiving statutory responses should not be a matter of the will of the mayors, but the solutions must be statutory.
In this context, we give the best response. We correct the injustice that has been done to them and to the diaspora. This injustice must be finalized with clear definitions in the party statute. We managed to survive at a time when they wanted to eliminate us.
"This department is the fiber of resistance in this ordeal. We managed to stamp out an electoral farce, like in 2001. We are in our final battle, which is the removal of this regime ," said Berisha.
