The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a meeting this afternoon with Democrats in the New Durrës area, where he focused particularly on the floods of recent months, which, according to him, affected around 6 thousand families in the city.
In his speech, Berisha harshly criticized the government, accusing it of a lack of response and responsibility towards the situation. He stated that the floods, in addition to rainfall, are also a consequence of mismanagement and corruption.
"Durres has revealed the ugly face of this government in the last two months. These months have seen apocalyptic floods, but also complete ignorance by the government. Floods from the rains, but also from corruption and the theft of funds for cleaning the canals and the sewage system ," Berisha said.
The chief democrat raised accusations of abuse of public funds and lack of transparency, citing, among other things, the relocation of the water main and allegations of pump theft in the Hamalla area. According to him, no one has been held accountable for the situation.
"Flooding 6,000 families and leaving them for days without a solution is a crime of many kinds. Was anyone held accountable? No one," declared the leader of the Democratic Party.
Berisha accused the government of not declaring a state of emergency, even though the situation constituted a natural disaster. He used harsh tones towards the majority, accusing it of misgovernance and impunity for those responsible.
