Former Prime Minister Accuses Government of Links to Drug Cartels and Alleges TIMS Data Was Exported to Shkozet

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has issued strong accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama and the government, claiming that the state administration in Albania has been criminalized and that the country has become an important center of international drug trafficking.

During a roundtable organized by the Democratic Party on security issues, Berisha said that Albania is the "number one exporter of cannabis in Europe," referring to UN reports, while directly accusing Prime Minister Rama of creating a policy that, according to him, favored drug cultivation and trafficking.

According to Berisha, drug trafficking in Albania has shifted from cannabis to cocaine, while Albanian clans have become important actors in the international drug market.

He also mentioned a wiretap recently reported in the Italian media, where, according to him, Giuseppe Grillo addressed Bartolo Bruzzetti with the words "the Albanians destroyed us", regarding the competition of Albanian criminal groups in cocaine trafficking from Latin America to Europe.

Berisha claimed that Albanian groups have gained considerable control over this activity through direct agreements with producers in Latin America.

In his statement, the former prime minister also made direct accusations about the Port of Durres. He said that there is data that, according to him, "requires investigation", alleging that "the Troplini cartel pays Edi Rama 300 million euros a year in taxes for the free use of the Port of Durres".

Berisha also stated that no amount of cocaine has been seized at the Port of Durres for five years, describing the port as a "free port for cocaine and drugs."

Another accusation he raised was related to the TIMS system. Berisha claimed that Ergys Agasi and Ermal Beqiri downloaded and exported TIMS system data, not abroad, but in the Shkozet area of Durrës.

According to him, this data is used by criminal groups to monitor entry and exit into Albanian territory.
