Prime Minister Edi Rama participated today in the Security Forum in Estonia, where he spoke about the challenges facing Europe and the transatlantic alliance in the new geopolitical conditions. In his speech, Rama emphasized Albania's support for NATO and the West, declaring that Albanians are pro-Western Taliban.
Rama focused on the dangers that, according to him, may come from bureaucratic fragmentation and the way Europe is facing security challenges. He warned that Europe must make a clear reassessment of security and economic priorities, emphasizing that the increase in the defense burden could create long-term imbalances for the continent.
"Albanians are pro-Western Taliban, we are with the transatlantic alliance until the end. Yesterday I had the honor of participating in a very beautiful ceremony in Germany. I do not want to provoke anyone here, but I am very tempted to draw a parallel, to make the former Soviet Union a starting point. When it comes to how things are perceived, but not treated. This is tempting, not because Europe can become the Soviet Union, but can Europe, under certain conditions, allow defense imperatives to create a long-term imbalance.
"It means we are facing the risk that the security burden will distort the economic challenges. I am concerned about where Europe is heading. We need to make a proper assessment. The context has changed. We are many countries, together we are a big economy. I will close with a question, which I think Europe should ask itself, how much can a civilization spend to protect itself ," he said.
