Berisha: The government is deceiving the EU with false statistics on justice and
Chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, accused the Albanian government of deceiving the European Union and public opinion about the state of the justice system and the European integration process.

In a statement to the media, Berisha said that a report made by government representatives contains figures that, according to him, contradict the official statistics of Albanian justice institutions.

According to him, the government has reported that justice indicators have improved compared to the period before the reform, while official institutions indicate that reviewing a file takes up to 16 years.

"In 2014, 2015 and 2016, it took 2 to 4 years to review the files. Now it takes 16 years," he said.

Berisha also accused the government of hiding the increase in the backlog of files in the judicial system. According to him, the number of files has reached 147 thousand, up from 143 thousand previously.

The opposition leader also criticized the way the European integration process is being managed, calling it "occult" and closed to the opposition and the public.

He focused on discussions in European forums about Albania, claiming that the report on the country has not received unanimous support from European Union member states.

According to him, the intergovernmental conference planned for April did not take place due to disagreements over the report on Albania.

Berisha accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of "privatizing" the integration process and excluding the opposition from discussions with European institutions.

He also mentioned a letter from the head of the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, David McAllister, to Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, following concerns raised by MP Jorida Tabaku about the exclusion of the opposition from the integration process.

Excerpt from Berisha's speech:

A preliminary report that I have from her report, she has been caught red-handed deceiving the parliament and public opinion in a disfiguring way.
She has given figures that are opposite to those given by the official institutions of Albania.
Imagine how they deceive the EU, how deceptive this is.

If the ILD or the KLGJ declare that it takes 16 years to review a file - and in the latest report - to review a file, Edi Rama's deceiver, this indicator said that it is better than before the reform. Imagine what an irresponsible person this is.
Meanwhile, before the reform, and not before 2013, but in 2014, 2015, 2016, statistics show that it never took more than 3 to 4 years. Or 2 to 4 years.
And now 16 years. The last one.

As shoqërinë civile.

It was not held. No, it was not called. Because the report was again in, it was not voted on, it was not voted on. They do not provide any data. They do not provide any explanation. Edi Rama owns it, he has owned the process. He is doing extraordinary damage to it. Why? Because today he is stigmatized.
You may find it surprising there, but he identifies with Lubinja more than I identify with her. Because they are used to it. Have you heard? She decides everything, she is the deputy prime minister in the shadow. This other one who went there, she does not sign. And I congratulate her.

This, as they tell me, has declared that I only sign in accordance with the law, when the law allows me. What, despite being appointed by Lubia, maybe they are starting to remember. What does she do? She comes to offices all day, to this one, to Karakaçi, to these.
She is the black shadow of the Council of Ministers. The shadow Deputy Prime Minister. And he thinks that they don't know, that others don't see it, everyone sees it. Everyone has found out that Lubia has the power. We have done it, we have raised our voices.

And if you have read the report of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, the report in the most decisive way lays out the role of the parliament and the opposition in the integration process. Which they are, this one has excluded. But the report lays them out. Lays them out. There is another very positive development. The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, Mr. McAllister, precisely on this issue, in response to a letter that Ms. Tabaku addresses about these problems, about the exclusion of the opposition from the integration process, addresses a very important letter to the Commissioner for Enlargement, Ms. Marta Kos.

So, these are the moments, and regarding today's debate or today's Coelho meeting, I have no information. I will try to provide information and of course I will inform Albanians according to the opportunity I have.
