Democratic MP Besart Xhaferri has indicated that he would be willing to run against the Socialist Party candidate, Ogerta Manastirliu, in the upcoming Tirana Municipal Elections.
While he was invited to the "Përbë Lajmit" column on Klan News and was asked by journalist Besard Jacaj if he would be willing to run, Xhaferri replied: " I make every kind of sacrifice for the Democrats, so I would definitely have the honor of my life to run when the party forums decide that I will be the winner. So no shyness about this ."
However, he stressed that the Democratic Party has its own rules for selecting candidates, based on the statute. According to him, it is important to overthrow the figure of Erion Veliaj and the model of corruption that, according to him, the socialist candidate, Manastirliu, represents.
" Then, regarding the selection of the Democratic Party candidate, we have a procedure and it does not depend on the whims of a chairman or the whims of a person who will nominate him, but I believe it will be based on a consultation with all the DP forums and that primary competition that we have always done and that is part of the statute."
"There is no fear at all for any figure from the Democratic Party to run in these elections. It is the only thing, a kind of prudence, not to rush into announcing their candidacies, without agreeing on who will be the best figure to overthrow and uproot Erion Veliaj from that municipality and not to install from the beginning a model of corruption like we have seen in the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education ," said Xhaferri.
We recall that a day ago, Erion Veliaj was dismissed from the position of mayor by a vote of the Tirana Municipal Council. This decision is expected to be approved by the Council of Ministers the next day, thus paving the way for Tirana elections.
