Freedom Party MP Tedi Blushi, during his speech in Parliament, said that the manner of Meta's arrest and detention constitutes a "criminal kidnapping" and violates the standards of the investigative process, emphasizing that he "has been isolated without committing any crime and without causing harm to the state."
The MP also stated that Meta has been denied some of his fundamental rights, including freedom of expression, meetings with family members, and contacts with party leaders.
“ The denial of the right to freedom of speech, the inability to meet with family members and leaders of the Freedom Party, constitute a flagrant violation of the Convention on Human Rights ,” said Blushi.
He called on the Minister of Justice to react immediately.
" Minister, on behalf of the Freedom Party, I ask you to intervene against this criminal behavior that is being practiced against the party leader and the leader of the second opposition force in the country, " he concluded.
Tedi Blushi: Yesterday, the Ombudsman published a report regarding the criminal behavior towards the former Speaker of this Parliament, former President and former Prime Minister Ilir Meta, who today, for more than a year, continues to be a political prisoner of a hostile regime. Not only towards him and the opposition, but also towards human values, freedoms and fundamental rights of every Albanian.
This report brings to light the criminal face of a regime in relation to the fundamental freedoms of a person and towards one of the two main leaders of the opposition, the criminal kidnapping of a year ago, sealed the criminal standards of his investigation and treatment in a prison institution, where he has been isolated without committing any crime, without causing any harm to the state and without violating a single penny of Albanian taxes.
The Ombudsman's report clearly highlights that the way this regime treats Meta, but also the majority of those who are in prison not because they have committed any crime, but because they are poor and do not have money to pay for electricity, emphasizes that the Constitution, the European Convention on Human Rights, the practice of the European Court, the law on the rights and treatment of detainees are being violated...
The denial of the right, freedom of speech, the denial of meeting with family members, with the leaders of the Party he leads, is in itself nothing more than a flagrant violation of the Human Rights Convention.
The battle for Meta is a battle for the freedom of every Albanian who today is not only physically in Edi Rama's prisons. An element that should not be forgotten is the fact that in installing this repressive and criminal regime, a great contribution has been made by Ramaforma, who destroyed the justice reform...
Mr. Minister, I ask you on behalf of the Freedom Party to react to the criminal behavior that is happening to the leader of the PL, the leader of the second opposition force in the country. This is a call that stems from our rights and the rights and freedoms of every Albanian. Put an end to the criminal behavior.
