Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku said that the 2025 budget proposed by the government for health is insufficient and unfair for Albanian citizens.
According to Tabaku, the budget does not foresee significant additions to health care, while emphasizing that Albanians will continue to pay a high percentage of their own pocket to receive health services.
"Today, 48% of health expenses are covered directly from citizens' pockets, while the rest comes from their taxes," said the MP.
Tabaku emphasizes that Albanian citizens are burdened by the ongoing crises of price increases and inequality in salaries and pensions, which he qualifies as a consequence of the failures of the socialist government and excessive investments in controversial public-private partnership (PPP) projects.
In her message, Tabaku raised questions about where the taxes of Albanians end up, while emphasizing the importance of a fairer and more focused budget to improve basic services for citizens.
"They promised you free health care, they promised you that you will not pay anything out of pocket for the health service. Where are we today? For every 10 ALL spent on education, 5 ALL comes out of the pockets of Albanian citizens. 50% of the entire budget that is spent on health comes from the pockets of Albanian citizens. Spending per capita in health is 266 euros, while the average of the EU countries is almost 10 times higher, 2650 euros, of the region at least twice as much as Albania, 500 euros per capita.
Health care is paid from the citizens' pockets, the price increase is paid from the citizens' pockets. Fewer funds for the state budget, whether for education, whether for health, or for all the main sectors, including agriculture. Where do the taxes of Albanian citizens go? We are reminded of health every time someone loses their life, every time there is a scandal in the hospital, every time they are forced to cover the next propaganda, but the reality of the health figures is sad, it is the reality that everyone who goes to hospital, is forced to pay from his own pocket, the reality of a budget that is always insufficient, of a budget that is not for the citizens even in the case of health, returning the health service to the minority and not to the majority", says Tabaku in social networks.
