The Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party, Oerd Bylykbashi, has commented on the recent political developments and the situation in Parliament, accusing the majority of deliberately obstructing democratic debate. He called this practice a violation of the rules of procedure and the rights of the opposition.
"In Parliament, the majority does not want a debate. Yesterday was the second time I spoke. I have asked to speak in every session, but I was not given the opportunity. They have turned the removal of the floor into a mechanism by closing the session," said Bylykbashi in the studio of the show "This Week" on News24.
According to him, the Democratic Party is a major force that represents a broad and diverse electorate, so there should be room for debate.
" We have the parliamentary debate as a powerful instrument, but not only that. We have protests, other actions, different forms of political reaction ," he emphasized.
Bylykbashi also expressed dissatisfaction with the way the Assembly is run by the current speaker, Niko Peleshi, underlining that he is acting under the influence of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
" The leadership of the Parliament with Speaker Niko Pelesh is problematic. It is understood that Rama gives orders. The Speaker of the Parliament is the number two of the Republic and must guarantee the balance of the parliamentary process ," said Bylykbashi.
The Democrat MP added that the premature closure of sessions is being used as a way to avoid transparency and block the voice of the opposition.
"When the session closed yesterday, voting also closed and the right to speak was taken away from the deputies who had agenda items. The rules are being openly violated. It is obvious that the orders come from the head of the SP parliamentary group ," Bylykbashi concluded.
