'Democrats, save that party from the swamp', Rama: We will get 9

"I tell the Democrats that on May 11, they should save that party, because it is no longer a party. Only by not voting for that party do they have an opportunity to drain the swamp and have a chance to rebirth that party."

This is how Edi Rama addressed the Democrats from a meeting with socialist women and girls he held in Durrës.

The Prime Minister, who is also the leader of the Socialist Party, has asked women that if men do not listen to them, they should go to sleep on May 11th.

"I don't know how they put them to sleep, but if they can't convince them to vote for us, then they put them to sleep," Rama said.

Following the jokes, the socialist leader said that he did not tell the socialist girls to separate from the democrats, but asked them to save them.

"I told them to save them, don't let them escape into the swamp," Rama said. He expressed his belief in winning 9 mandates in Durrës.

"I heard one of those sycophants saying, 'What a surprise with these socialists, they'll get the mandate again, how will they get it and it seems to me that they'll get it again! And they won it again, they won the wars, the earthquake, the Covid, etc.,' this sycophant was saying now. But if it were the swamp with the owl, forget that they would get new houses. If it weren't for us, it would be the swamp with the owl, without a hospital, imagine what would happen with Covid.

"We did not go to war with Russia, but what happened there where the energy system was severely hit, we did what we did, not only did we not increase it by 1 cent, but we overcame that crisis, but we are also the only country in the world, because Europe has other situations, that we have reduced the price of electricity," said Rama.

He responded to critics regarding the European integration process and the fourth governing mandate that the Socialist Party is seeking.

Rama stressed that membership in the European Union depends not only on the will of the aspiring country, but also on the consensus of the member states. “The EU does not open the door to you when you want, but when you are ready to enter that house and when those inside are ready to let you in,” Rama said. “There have been cases when the European Commission has recommended the opening of negotiations, but some member states have stopped the process for internal reasons.”

"There are some who say 'what to do with this Edi Rama, isn't he ashamed? He has three mandates and I need a fourth, he says to send him to the EU'. According to them, this is something to be ashamed of because as long as we didn't do it for three mandates, we don't deserve a fourth," said Rama.

Addressing critics who ask why integration was not achieved during the previous three mandates, Rama brought up neighboring countries as an example. “Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia opened negotiations much earlier, but none of them is in the EU today. Albania opened negotiations only last year and already has a plan to close them in 2027,” the prime minister declared.

He stated that the opposition is deceiving citizens with "brochures", adding that the truth is different.

"Those sycophants will tell you all sorts of nonsense, but the truth is that the EU opens the door when it is ready to open the door based on the consensus of the 27 member states.

"This open door can be closed and we can remain outside it for I don't know how many years. None of the former communist countries have had negotiations with the EU for less than 6-7-8 years. We have the opportunity to close them for 3 years," he said.
