Former Minister of Finance, Arben Malaj, has spoken about the most difficult moments during his collaboration with former Prime Minister Fatos Nano.
Malaj focused on the events of 1998, a tense period for Albania and the prime minister himself.
" The most difficult moment for us was when in 1998, with a coffin, the door of the prime minister's office was torn down. That moment also brought political disappointment, because in '97 Nano did not turn his suffering into political revenge and made a personal amnesty with Berisha, emphasizing that there was no need for political myths with opponents that would keep the political aggravation in the country. He showed his commitment to peace in politics, " said Malaj.
The former minister also recalled the internal difficulties in the Socialist Party, when small groups were formed that hindered the functioning of the government and when Nano governed with deputy ministers due to the lack of a parliamentary majority.
" He was disappointed in himself. He didn't create enemies and he gave me a valuable lesson in politics. He told me: 'We'll go to parliament together' and he ironically referred to everyone as a greeting from such-and-such an institution. When we went to a cafe, he told me: everyone here refers to themselves as an institution, not as an individual, " Malaj said on the show "This Week".
