Former Democratic Party MP, Ervin Salianji, stated that within the DP there has been no fundamental change since 2013, neither in the way it functions, nor in the selection of leadership, nor in political language.
Invited to the show "Off the Record", Salianji said that, in 2026, most of the figures running and leading the DP are the same names that were active in 2013.
According to him, the lack of real renewal and strategic mistakes, especially after the loss of the 2021 elections, have produced a deep crisis of confidence among the opposition electorate. Salianji admitted that he himself bears responsibility for the fact that the removal of Lulzim Basha was not requested immediately after the loss, describing this as a "political catastrophe" that paved the way for Edi Rama's third and then fourth mandate.
He stressed that the Democratic Party today suffers from strategic ambiguity, lack of hope and a formal opposition, without real protests and without civic mobilization. According to Salianj, the DP is behaving as if the electoral losses did not happen, while the rhetoric about "stolen elections" has been consumed without any concrete action.
The former MP announced that he has started a tour of meetings in the districts to listen to the Democrats and identify the real problems of the party. He warned that at the end of this process he will come out publicly with a concrete reform platform, which aims to turn the DP into a winning force, with clear rules for political careers, a new language and real connections with society.
