Analyst Ergys Mërtiri has commented on the recent movements of MP Ervin Salianji, who has held meetings with the democratic base, but has faced criticism and lack of support from the leadership of the Democratic Party.
Mërtiri said that the opposition led by Sali Berisha is one of the main factors keeping Prime Minister Edi Rama in power.
"The only thing keeping Rama in power is Berisha. If it weren't for Berisha, Rama would have fallen long ago," he declared.
According to the analyst, the way the opposition protests are organized does not weaken the government, but rather gives it legitimacy.
"The DP's protests do nothing against the government. Rama will only fall with massive popular protests, not party protests. People do not agree to overthrow Rama to replace him with Berisha," said Mërtiri.
He emphasized that in order to convince Democrats and public opinion, the Democratic Party must reform and distance itself from old figures.
"This party must give up the old ways that will not go away no matter what. The people themselves punished them with 1 million votes against because they were corrupt, but today they say: remove Rama and put us back in," he said.
Commenting on the case of Ervin Salianj, Mërtiri harshly criticized the attacks against him from within the DP.
"In that party, anyone who dares to speak the truth faces ridiculous attacks as if they are sponsored by crime and serve Rama," the analyst said.
He described this behavior as a reflection of an outdated political mentality.
"The mentality of those who lead that party is Enverist. Berisha, in his mentality, is no different from Enver Hoxha or Ramiz Alia. With this mentality, you cannot win by accusing anyone of conspiracy and labeling them as an accomplice to crime," Mërtiri concluded on News24.
